2024-11-07selftests: net: add a test for closing a netlink socket ith dump in progressJakub Kicinski1-0/+1
Close a socket with dump in progress. We need a dump which generates enough info not to fit into a single skb. Policy dump fits the bill. Use the trick discovered by syzbot for keeping a ref on the socket longer than just close, with mqueue. 2024-09-11selftests: add ncdevmem, netcat for devmem TCPMina Almasry1-0/+9
ncdevmem is a devmem TCP netcat. It works similarly to netcat, but it sends and receives data using the devmem TCP APIs. It uses udmabuf as the dmabuf provider. It is compatible with a regular netcat running on a peer, or a ncdevmem running on a peer. In addition to normal netcat support, ncdevmem has a validation mode, where it sends a specific pattern and validates this pattern on the receiver side to ensure data integrity. 2024-09-05selftests: net: enable bind testsJamie Bainbridge1-1/+2
bind_wildcard is compiled but not run, bind_timewait is not compiled. These two tests complete in a very short time, use the test harness properly, and seem reasonable to enable. 2024-08-24selftests: add xfrm policy insertion speed test scriptFlorian Westphal1-1/+1
Nothing special, just test how long insertion of x policies takes. This should ideally show linear insertion speeds. Do not run this by default, it has little value, but it can be useful to check for insertion speed chahnges when altering the xfrm policy db implementation. I don't see any runtime effects here - more a cleanup/understandability/maintainablity thing. - Dev Jain has improved selftests/mm/va_high_addr_switch.c's handling of higher addresses, for aarch64. The (poorly named) series is "Restructure va_high_addr_switch". - The core TLB handling code gets some cleanups and possible slight optimizations in Bang Li's series "Add update_mmu_tlb_range() to simplify code". - Jane Chu has improved the handling of our fake-an-unrecoverable-memory-error testing feature MADV_HWPOISON in the series "Enhance soft hwpoison handling and injection". - Jeff Johnson has sent a billion patches everywhere to add MODULE_DESCRIPTION() to everything. Some landed in this pull. - In the series "mm: cleanup MIGRATE_SYNC_NO_COPY mode", Kefeng Wang has simplified migration's use of hardware-offload memory copying. - Yosry Ahmed performs more folio API conversions in his series "mm: zswap: trivial folio conversions". - In the series "large folios swap-in: handle refault cases first", Chuanhua Han inches us forward in the handling of large pages in the swap code. This is a cleanup and optimization, working toward the end objective of full support of large folio swapin/out. - In the series "mm,swap: cleanup VMA based swap readahead window calculation", Huang Ying has contributed some cleanups and a possible fixlet to his VMA based swap readahead code. - In the series "add mTHP support for anonymous shmem" Baolin Wang has taught anonymous shmem mappings to use multisize THP. By default this is a no-op - users must opt in vis sysfs controls. Dramatic improvements in pagefault latency are realized. - David Hildenbrand has some cleanups to our remaining use of page_mapcount() in the series "fs/proc: move page_mapcount() to fs/proc/internal.h". - David also has some highmem accounting cleanups in the series "mm/highmem: don't track highmem pages manually". - Build-time fixes and cleanups from John Hubbard in the series "cleanups, fixes, and progress towards avoiding "make headers"". - Cleanups and consolidation of the core pagemap handling from Barry Song in the series "mm: introduce pmd|pte_needs_soft_dirty_wp helpers and utilize them". - Lance Yang's series "Reclaim lazyfree THP without splitting" has reduced the latency of the reclaim of pmd-mapped THPs under fairly common circumstances. A 10x speedup is seen in a microbenchmark. It does this by punting to aother CPU but I guess that's a win unless all CPUs are pegged. - hugetlb_cgroup cleanups from Xiu Jianfeng in the series "mm/hugetlb_cgroup: rework on cftypes". - Miaohe Lin's series "Some cleanups for memory-failure" does just that thing. - Someone other than SeongJae has developed a DAMON feature in Honggyu Kim's series "DAMON based tiered memory management for CXL memory". This adds DAMON features which may be used to help determine the efficiency of our placement of CXL/PCIe attached DRAM. - DAMON user API centralization and simplificatio work in SeongJae Park's series "mm/damon: introduce DAMON parameters online commit function". - In the series "mm: page_type, zsmalloc and page_mapcount_reset()" David Hildenbrand does some maintenance work on zsmalloc - partially modernizing its use of pageframe fields. - Kefeng Wang provides more folio conversions in the series "mm: remove page_maybe_dma_pinned() and page_mkclean()". - More cleanup from David Hildenbrand, this time in the series "mm/memory_hotplug: use PageOffline() instead of PageReserved() for !ZONE_DEVICE". It "enlightens memory hotplug more about PageOffline() pages" and permits the removal of some virtio-mem hacks. - Barry Song's series "mm: clarify folio_add_new_anon_rmap() and __folio_add_anon_rmap()" is a cleanup to the anon folio handling in preparation for mTHP (multisize THP) swapin. - Kefeng Wang's series "mm: improve clear and copy user folio" implements more folio conversions, this time in the area of large folio userspace copying. - The series "Docs/mm/damon/maintaier-profile: document a mailing tool and community meetup series" tells people how to get better involved with other DAMON developers. From SeongJae Park. - A large series ("kmsan: Enable on s390") from Ilya Leoshkevich does that. - David Hildenbrand sends along more cleanups, this time against the migration code. The series is "mm/migrate: move NUMA hinting fault folio isolation + checks under PTL". - Jan Kara has found quite a lot of strangenesses and minor errors in the readahead code. He addresses this in the series "mm: Fix various readahead quirks". - SeongJae Park's series "selftests/damon: test DAMOS tried regions and {min,max}_nr_regions" adds features and addresses errors in DAMON's self testing code. - Gavin Shan has found a userspace-triggerable WARN in the pagecache code. The series "mm/filemap: Limit page cache size to that supported by xarray" addresses this. The series is marked cc:stable. - Chengming Zhou's series "mm/ksm: cmp_and_merge_page() optimizations and cleanup" cleans up and slightly optimizes KSM. - Roman Gushchin has separated the memcg-v1 and memcg-v2 code - lots of code motion. The series (which also makes the memcg-v1 code Kconfigurable) are "mm: memcg: separate legacy cgroup v1 code and put under config option" and "mm: memcg: put cgroup v1-specific memcg data under CONFIG_MEMCG_V1" - Dan Schatzberg's series "Add swappiness argument to memory.reclaim" adds an additional feature to this cgroup-v2 control file. - The series "Userspace controls soft-offline pages" from Jiaqi Yan permits userspace to stop the kernel's automatic treatment of excessive correctable memory errors. In order to permit userspace to monitor and handle this situation. - Kefeng Wang's series "mm: migrate: support poison recover from migrate folio" teaches the kernel to appropriately handle migration from poisoned source folios rather than simply panicing. - SeongJae Park's series "Docs/damon: minor fixups and improvements" does those things. - In the series "mm/zsmalloc: change back to per-size_class lock" Chengming Zhou improves zsmalloc's scalability and memory utilization. - Vivek Kasireddy's series "mm/gup: Introduce memfd_pin_folios() for pinning memfd folios" makes the GUP code use FOLL_PIN rather than bare refcount increments. So these paes can first be moved aside if they reside in the movable zone or a CMA block. - Andrii Nakryiko has added a binary ioctl()-based API to /proc/pid/maps for much faster reading of vma information. The series is "query VMAs from /proc/<pid>/maps". - In the series "mm: introduce per-order mTHP split counters" Lance Yang improves the kernel's presentation of developer information related to multisize THP splitting. - Michael Ellerman has developed the series "Reimplement huge pages without hugepd on powerpc (8xx, e500, book3s/64)". 2024-07-10selftests: centralize -D_GNU_SOURCE= to CFLAGS in lib.mkEdward Liaw1-1/+1
Centralize the _GNU_SOURCE definition to CFLAGS in lib.mk. Remove redundant defines from Makefiles that import lib.mk. Convert any usage of "#define _GNU_SOURCE 1" to "#define _GNU_SOURCE". This uses the form "-D_GNU_SOURCE=", which is equivalent to "#define _GNU_SOURCE". Otherwise using "-D_GNU_SOURCE" is equivalent to "-D_GNU_SOURCE=1" and "#define _GNU_SOURCE 1", which is less commonly seen in source code and would require many changes in selftests to avoid redefinition warnings. This test ensures that the ioctls have the expected return codes and that the kernel properly gets and sets epoll busy poll parameters. 2024-05-08selftests: drv-net: add checksum testsWillem de Bruijn1-1/+0
Run tools/testing/selftest/net/csum.c as part of drv-net. This binary covers multiple scenarios, based on arguments given, for both IPv4 and IPv6: - Accept UDP correct checksum - Detect UDP invalid checksum - Accept TCP correct checksum - Detect TCP invalid checksum - Transmit UDP: basic checksum offload - Transmit UDP: zero checksum conversion The test direction is reversed between receive and transmit tests, so that the NIC under test is always the local machine. In total this adds up to 12 testcases, with more to follow. For conciseness, I replaced individual functions with a function factory. Also detect hardware offload feature availability using Ethtool netlink and skip tests when either feature is off. This need may be common for offload feature tests and eventually deserving of a thin wrapper in lib.py. Missing are the PF_PACKET based send tests ('-P'). These use virtio_net_hdr to program hardware checksum offload. Which requires looking up the local MAC address and (harder) the MAC of the next hop. I'll have to give it some though how to do that robustly and where that code would belong. 2024-04-24selftests: net: extract BPF building logic from the MakefileJakub Kicinski1-52/+1
The BPF sample building code looks a little bit spaghetti-ish so move it out to its own Makefile snippet. Similar in the spirit to how we include lib.mk. libynl will soon get a similar snippet. There is a small change hiding in the move, the relative paths (../../.., ../.. etc) are replaced with variables from lib.mk such as top_srcdir and selfdir. selftest build is fairly noisy, it's easy to miss warnings. It's standard practice to add alternative messages in the Makefile. I was grepping for existing solutions, and found that bpf already has the right knobs. Move them to lib.mk and adopt in net. Convert the basic rules in lib.mk. Non-ancient ip (iproute2-5.15.0, libbpf 0.7.0) refuses to load the sample with maps because we don't generate BTF: libbpf: BTF is required, but is missing or corrupted. ERROR: opening BPF object file failed Enable BTF by adding -g to clang flags. With that done neither of the programs load: libbpf: prog 'func': error relocating .BTF.ext function info: -22 libbpf: prog 'func': failed to relocate calls: -22 libbpf: failed to load object 'ksft-net-drv/net/sample_ret0.bpf.o' Andrii explains that this is because we don't specify section names for the code. 2024-03-28selftests: forwarding: Move several selftestsPetr Machata1-1/+0
The tests in net/forwarding are generally expected to be HW-independent. There are however several tests that, while not depending on any HW in particular, nevertheless depend on being used on HW interfaces. Placing these selftests to net/forwarding is confusing, because the selftest will just report it can't be run on veth pairs. At the same time, placing them to a particular driver's selftests subdirectory would be wrong. Instead, add a new directory, drivers/net/hw, where these generic but HW independent selftests should be placed. Move over several such tests including one helper library. Since typically these tests will not be expected to run, omit the directory drivers/net/hw from the TARGETS list in selftests/Makefile. Retain a Makefile in the new directory itself, so that a user can make -C into that directory and act on those tests explicitly. 2023-11-20selftests: net: verify fq per-band packet limitWillem de Bruijn1-0/+1
Commit 29f834aa326e ("net_sched: sch_fq: add 3 bands and WRR scheduling") introduces multiple traffic bands, and per-band maximum packet count. Per-band limits ensures that packets in one class cannot fill the entire qdisc and so cause DoS to the traffic in the other classes. Verify this behavior: 1. set the limit to 10 per band 2. send 20 pkts on band A: verify that 10 are queued, 10 dropped 3. send 20 pkts on band A: verify that 0 are queued, 20 dropped 4. send 20 pkts on band B: verify that 10 are queued, 10 dropped Packets must remain queued for a period to trigger this behavior. Use SO_TXTIME to store packets for 100 msec. The test reuses existing upstream test infra. The script is a fork of cmsg_time.sh. The scripts call cmsg_sender. The test extends cmsg_sender with two arguments: * '-P' SO_PRIORITY There is a subtle difference between IPv4 and IPv6 stack behavior: PF_INET/IP_TOS sets IP header bits and sk_priority PF_INET6/IPV6_TCLASS sets IP header bits BUT NOT sk_priority * '-n' num pkts Send multiple packets in quick succession. I first attempted a for loop in the script, but this is too slow in virtualized environments, causing flakiness as the 100ms timeout is reached and packets are dequeued. Also do not wait for timestamps to be queued unless timestamps are requested. This selftest is designed for testing the support of NEXT-C-SID flavor for SRv6 End.X behavior. It instantiates a virtual network composed of several nodes: hosts and SRv6 routers. Each node is realized using a network namespace that is properly interconnected to others through veth pairs, according to the topology depicted in the selftest script file. The test considers SRv6 routers implementing IPv4/IPv6 L3 VPNs leveraged by hosts for communicating with each other. Such routers i) apply different SRv6 Policies to the traffic received from connected hosts, considering the IPv4 or IPv6 protocols; ii) use the NEXT-C-SID compression mechanism for encoding several SRv6 segments within a single 128-bit SID address, referred to as a Compressed SID (C-SID) container. The NEXT-C-SID is provided as a "flavor" of the SRv6 End.X behavior, enabling it to properly process the C-SID containers. The correct execution of the enabled NEXT-C-SID SRv6 End.X behavior is verified through reachability tests carried out between hosts belonging to the same VPN. This test runs on the client-router-server topo, and monitors the traffic on the RX devices of router and server while sending BIG TCP packets with netperf from client to server. Meanwhile, it changes 'tso' on the TX devs and 'gro' on the RX devs. Then it checks if any BIG TCP packets appears on the RX devs with 'ip/ip6tables -m length ! --length 0:65535' for each case.
