2024-02-08wifi: mac80211: simplify non-chanctx driversJohannes Berg1-0/+4
There are still surprisingly many non-chanctx drivers, but in mac80211 that code is a bit awkward. Simplify this by having those drivers assign 'emulated' ops, so that the mac80211 code can be more unified between non-chanctx/chanctx drivers. This cuts the number of places caring about it by about 15, which are scattered across - now they're fewer and no longer in the channel context handling. 2023-12-01wifi: ath5k: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König1-5/+3
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new(), which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() will be renamed to .remove(). Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. make htmldocs warns: Documentation/driver-api/80211/mac80211:109: ./include/net/mac80211.h:5170: WARNING: Duplicate C declaration, also defined at mac80211:1117. Declaration is '.. c:function:: void ieee80211_tx_status (struct ieee80211_hw *hw, struct sk_buff *skb)'. This is because there's a function named ieee80211_tx_status() and a struct named ieee80211_tx_status. This has been discussed previously but no solution found: https://lore.kernel.org/all/[email protected]/ There's also a bug open for three years with no solution in sight: https://github.com/sphinx-doc/sphinx/pull/8313 So I guess we have no other solution than to a workaround this in the code, for example to rename the function to ieee80211_tx_status_skb() to avoid the name conflict. I got the idea for the name from ieee80211_tx_status_noskb() in which the skb is not provided as an argument, instead with ieee80211_tx_status_skb() the skb is provided. Compile tested only. 2023-10-18wifi: ath5k: replace deprecated strncpy with strscpyJustin Stitt1-2/+1
strncpy() is deprecated for use on NUL-terminated destination strings [1] and as such we should prefer more robust and less ambiguous string interfaces. We expect led->name to be NUL-terminated based on the presence of a manual NUL-byte assignment. This NUL-byte assignment was added in Commit daf9669bea30aa22 ("ath5k: ensure led name is null terminated"). If strscpy() had existed and had been used back when this code was written then potential bugs and the need to manually NUL-terminate could have been avoided. Since we now have the technology, let's use it :) Considering the above, a suitable replacement is `strscpy` [2] due to the fact that it guarantees NUL-termination on the destination buffer without unnecessarily NUL-padding. If NUL-padding is required let's opt for strscpy_pad(). coccinielle reported the following: ./drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath5k/phy.c:1573:25-26: WARNING opportunity for swap() while trying to fix the above warning, it reveals that ath5k_hw_get_median_noise_floor() had open-coded sort() functionality. Since ath5k_hw_get_median_noise_floor() only executes once every 10 seconds, any extra overhead due to sort() calling its "compare" and "swap" functions can be ignored, so replace the existing logic with a call to sort(). 'phydir' returned from debugfs_create_dir() is checked against NULL. As the debugfs API returns an error pointer, the returned value can never be NULL. Therefore, as the documentation suggests that the check is unnecessary and other debugfs calls have no operation in error cases, it is advisable to completely eliminate the check. 2023-02-22wifi: ath5k: Use platform_get_irq() to get the interruptDouglas Anderson1-6/+4
As of commit a1a2b7125e10 ("of/platform: Drop static setup of IRQ resource from DT core"), we need to use platform_get_irq() instead of platform_get_resource() to get our IRQs because platform_get_resource() simply won't get them anymore. This was already fixed in several other Atheros WiFi drivers, apparently in response to Zeal Robot reports. An example of another fix is commit 9503a1fc123d ("ath9k: Use platform_get_irq() to get the interrupt"). ath5k seems to have been missed in this effort, though. 2022-01-17ath5k: fix ah_txq_isr_txok_all settingPeter Seiderer1-0/+1
The struct ath5k_hw member ah_txq_isr_txok_all is never reset/assigned outside of ath5k_hw_get_isr() and with the used bitwise-or in the interrupt handling accumulates all ever set interrupt flags. Fix this by clearing ah_txq_isr_txok_all before assigning. Patch tested with Senao NMP-8602 card Qualcomm Atheros AR5413/AR5414 Wireless Network Adapter [AR5006X(S) 802.11abg] (rev 01) ath5k: phy6: Atheros AR5413 chip found (MAC: 0xa4, PHY: 0x61) running IBSS mode against Atheros (ath9k) card using ping and iperf traffic. The bug was found during fuzzing. Stacktrace locates it in ath5k_eeprom_convert_pcal_info_5111. When none of the curve is selected in the loop, idx can go up to AR5K_EEPROM_N_PD_CURVES. The line makes pd out of bound. pd = &chinfo[pier].pd_curves[idx]; There are many OOB writes using pd later in the code. So I added a sanity check for idx. Checks for other loops involving AR5K_EEPROM_N_PD_CURVES are not needed as the loop index is not used outside the loops. The patch is NOT tested with real device. 2021-12-20ath5k: switch to rate table based lookupJonas Jelonek1-2/+48
Switching from legacy usage of ieee80211_get_tx_rates() lookup to direct rate table lookup in struct ieee80211_sta->rates. The current rate control API allows drivers to directly get rates from ieee80211_sta->rates. ath5k is currently one of the legacy drivers that perform translation/merge with the internal rate table via ieee80211_get_tx_rates provided by rate control API. For our upcoming changes to rate control API and the implementation of transmit power control, this patch changes the behaviour. The call to ieee80211_get_tx_rates and subsequent calls are also avoided. ath5k now directly reads rates from sta->rates into its internal rate table. Cause ath5k does not rely on the rate array in SKB->CB, this is not considered anymore except for the first entry (used for probing). Tested this on a PCEngines ALIX with CMP9-GP miniPCI wifi card (Atheros AR5213A). Generated traffic between AP and multiple STAs before and after applying the patch and simultaneously measured throughput and captured rc_stats. Comparison resulted in same rate selection and no performance loss between both runs. tkip_keymap can be used internally to avoid the reference to key->cipher and with this, only the key index value itself is needed. This allows ath_key_delete() call to be postponed to be handled after the upper layer STA and key entry have already been removed. This is needed to make ath9k key cache management safer. Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over '---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances. This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation.
