2024-05-03Revert "net: mirror skb frag ref/unref helpers"Mina Almasry1-1/+1
This reverts commit a580ea994fd37f4105028f5a85c38ff6508a2b25. This revert is to resolve Dragos's report of page_pool leak here: https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/[email protected]/ The reverted patch interacts very badly with commit 2cc3aeb5eccc ("skbuff: Fix a potential race while recycling page_pool packets"). The reverted commit hopes that the pp_recycle + is_pp_page variables do not change between the skb_frag_ref and skb_frag_unref operation. If such a change occurs, the skb_frag_ref/unref will not operate on the same reference type. In the case of Dragos's report, the grabbed ref was a pp ref, but the unref was a page ref, because the pp_recycle setting on the skb was changed. Attempting to fix this issue on the fly is risky. Lets revert and I hope to reland this with better understanding and testing to ensure we don't regress some edge case while streamlining skb reffing. 2024-04-11net: mirror skb frag ref/unref helpersMina Almasry1-1/+1
Refactor some of the skb frag ref/unref helpers for improved clarity. Implement napi_pp_get_page() to be the mirror counterpart of napi_pp_put_page(). Implement skb_page_ref() to be the mirror of skb_page_unref(). Improve __skb_frag_ref() to become a mirror counterpart of __skb_frag_unref(). Previously unref could handle pp & non-pp pages, while the ref could only handle non-pp pages. Now both the ref & unref helpers can correctly handle both pp & non-pp pages. Now that __skb_frag_ref() can handle both pp & non-pp pages, remove skb_pp_frag_ref(), and use __skb_frag_ref() instead. This lets us remove pp specific handling from skb_try_coalesce. Additionally, since __skb_frag_ref() can now handle both pp & non-pp pages, a latent issue in skb_shift() should now be fixed. Previously this function would do a non-pp ref & pp unref on potential pp frags (fragfrom). After this patch, skb_shift() should correctly do a pp ref/unref on pp frags. 2024-04-11net: move skb ref helpers to new headerMina Almasry1-0/+1
Add a new header, linux/skbuff_ref.h, which contains all the skb_*_ref() helpers. Many of the consumers of skbuff.h do not actually use any of the skb ref helpers, and we can speed up compilation a bit by minimizing this header file. Additionally in the later patch in the series we add page_pool support to skb_frag_ref(), which requires some page_pool dependencies. We can now add these dependencies to skbuff_ref.h instead of a very ubiquitous skbuff.h Signed-off-by: Mina Almasry <[email protected]> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/[email protected] Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <[email protected]>

2023-10-13tcp: allow again tcp_disconnect() when threads are waitingPaolo Abeni1-7/+29
As reported by Tom, .NET and applications build on top of it rely on connect(AF_UNSPEC) to async cancel pending I/O operations on TCP socket. The blamed commit below caused a regression, as such cancellation can now fail. As suggested by Eric, this change addresses the problem explicitly causing blocking I/O operation to terminate immediately (with an error) when a concurrent disconnect() is executed. Instead of tracking the number of threads blocked on a given socket, track the number of disconnect() issued on such socket. If such counter changes after a blocking operation releasing and re-acquiring the socket lock, error out the current operation. 2023-08-20ipv4: fix data-races around inet->inet_idEric Dumazet1-1/+1
UDP sendmsg() is lockless, so ip_select_ident_segs() can very well be run from multiple cpus [1] Convert inet->inet_id to an atomic_t, but implement a dedicated path for TCP, avoiding cost of a locked instruction (atomic_add_return()) Note that this patch will cause a trivial merge conflict because we added inet->flags in net-next tree. v2: added missing change in drivers/net/ethernet/chelsio/inline_crypto/chtls/chtls_cm.c (David Ahern) [1] BUG: KCSAN: data-race in __ip_make_skb / __ip_make_skb read-write to 0xffff888145af952a of 2 bytes by task 7803 on cpu 1: ip_select_ident_segs include/net/ip.h:542 [inline] ip_select_ident include/net/ip.h:556 [inline] __ip_make_skb+0x844/0xc70 net/ipv4/ip_output.c:1446 ip_make_skb+0x233/0x2c0 net/ipv4/ip_output.c:1560 udp_sendmsg+0x1199/0x1250 net/ipv4/udp.c:1260 inet_sendmsg+0x63/0x80 net/ipv4/af_inet.c:830 sock_sendmsg_nosec net/socket.c:725 [inline] sock_sendmsg net/socket.c:748 [inline] ____sys_sendmsg+0x37c/0x4d0 net/socket.c:2494 ___sys_sendmsg net/socket.c:2548 [inline] __sys_sendmmsg+0x269/0x500 net/socket.c:2634 __do_sys_sendmmsg net/socket.c:2663 [inline] __se_sys_sendmmsg net/socket.c:2660 [inline] __x64_sys_sendmmsg+0x57/0x60 net/socket.c:2660 do_syscall_x64 arch/x86/entry/common.c:50 [inline] do_syscall_64+0x41/0xc0 arch/x86/entry/common.c:80 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x63/0xcd read to 0xffff888145af952a of 2 bytes by task 7804 on cpu 0: ip_select_ident_segs include/net/ip.h:541 [inline] ip_select_ident include/net/ip.h:556 [inline] __ip_make_skb+0x817/0xc70 net/ipv4/ip_output.c:1446 ip_make_skb+0x233/0x2c0 net/ipv4/ip_output.c:1560 udp_sendmsg+0x1199/0x1250 net/ipv4/udp.c:1260 inet_sendmsg+0x63/0x80 net/ipv4/af_inet.c:830 sock_sendmsg_nosec net/socket.c:725 [inline] sock_sendmsg net/socket.c:748 [inline] ____sys_sendmsg+0x37c/0x4d0 net/socket.c:2494 ___sys_sendmsg net/socket.c:2548 [inline] __sys_sendmmsg+0x269/0x500 net/socket.c:2634 __do_sys_sendmmsg net/socket.c:2663 [inline] __se_sys_sendmmsg net/socket.c:2660 [inline] __x64_sys_sendmmsg+0x57/0x60 net/socket.c:2660 do_syscall_x64 arch/x86/entry/common.c:50 [inline] do_syscall_64+0x41/0xc0 arch/x86/entry/common.c:80 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x63/0xcd value changed: 0x184d -> 0x184e Reported by Kernel Concurrency Sanitizer on: CPU: 0 PID: 7804 Comm: syz-executor.1 Not tainted 6.5.0-rc6-syzkaller #0 Hardware name: Google Google Compute Engine/Google Compute Engine, BIOS Google 07/26/2023 ================================================================== Fixes: 23f57406b82d ("ipv4: avoid using shared IP generator for connected sockets") Reported-by: syzbot <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <[email protected]> Reviewed-by: David Ahern <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: David S. 2023-06-15net: tls: make the offload check helper take skb not socketJakub Kicinski1-1/+1
All callers of tls_is_sk_tx_device_offloaded() currently do an equivalent of: if (skb->sk && tls_is_skb_tx_device_offloaded(skb->sk)) Have the helper accept skb and do the skb->sk check locally. Two drivers have local static inlines with similar wrappers already. While at it change the ifdef condition to TLS_DEVICE. Only TLS_DEVICE selects SOCK_VALIDATE_XMIT, so the two are equivalent. This makes removing the duplicated IS_ENABLED() check in funeth more obviously correct. 2022-11-25ch_ktls: Use memcpy_from_page() instead of k[un]map_atomic()Anirudh Venkataramanan1-14/+12
kmap_atomic() is being deprecated in favor of kmap_local_page(). Replace the map-memcpy-unmap usage pattern (done using k[un]map_atomic()) with memcpy_from_page(), which internally uses kmap_local_page() and kunmap_local(). This renders the variables 'data' and 'vaddr' unnecessary, and so remove these too. Note that kmap_atomic() disables preemption and page-fault processing, but kmap_local_page() doesn't. When converting uses of kmap_atomic(), one has to check if the code being executed between the map/unmap implicitly depends on page-faults and/or preemption being disabled. If yes, then code to disable page-faults and/or preemption should also be added for functional correctness. That however doesn't appear to be the case here, so just memcpy_from_page() is used. Also note that the page being mapped is not allocated by the driver, and so the driver doesn't know if the page is in normal memory. This is the reason kmap_local_page() is used (via memcpy_from_page()) as opposed to page_address(). I don't have hardware, so this change has only been compile tested. 2022-08-10net/tls: Use RCU API to access tls_ctx->netdevMaxim Mikityanskiy1-1/+7
Currently, tls_device_down synchronizes with tls_device_resync_rx using RCU, however, the pointer to netdev is stored using WRITE_ONCE and loaded using READ_ONCE. Although such approach is technically correct (rcu_dereference is essentially a READ_ONCE, and rcu_assign_pointer uses WRITE_ONCE to store NULL), using special RCU helpers for pointers is more valid, as it includes additional checks and might change the implementation transparently to the callers. Mark the netdev pointer as __rcu and use the correct RCU helpers to access it. For non-concurrent access pass the right conditions that guarantee safe access (locks taken, refcount value). Also use the correct helper in mlx5e, where even READ_ONCE was missing. The transition to RCU exposes existing issues, fixed by this commit: 1. bond_tls_device_xmit could read netdev twice, and it could become NULL the second time, after the NULL check passed. 2. Drivers shouldn't stop processing the last packet if tls_device_down just set netdev to NULL, before tls_dev_del was called. This prevents a possible packet drop when transitioning to the fallback software mode. But even if we reduce batch sizes, there would still be cases where the estimated count of orphans is beyond the limit, and where tcp_too_many_orphans() has to call the expensive percpu_counter_sum_positive(). One solution is to use plain per-cpu counters, and have a timer to periodically refresh this cache. Updating this cache every 100ms seems about right, tcp pressure state is not radically changing over shorter periods. percpu_counter was nice 15 years ago while hosts had less than 16 cpus, not anymore by current standards. v2: Fix the build issue for CONFIG_CRYPTO_DEV_CHELSIO_TLS=m, reported by kernel test robot <[email protected]> Remove unused socket argument from tcp_too_many_orphans() Fixes: dd24c00191d5 ("net: Use a percpu_counter for orphan_count") Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <[email protected]> Reported-by: Stefan Bach <[email protected]> Cc: Neal Cardwell <[email protected]> Acked-by: Neal Cardwell <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: David S. So fixed this by keeping the max wreq size of imm data same in both chtls and cxgb4 as MAX_IMM_OFLD_TX_DATA_WR_LEN. As cxgb4's max imm. data value for ofld packets is changed to MAX_IMM_OFLD_TX_DATA_WR_LEN. Using the same in cxgbit also.
