2024-06-21media: Convert from tasklet to BH workqueueAllen Pais4-21/+24
The only generic interface to execute asynchronously in the BH context is tasklet; however, it's marked deprecated and has some design flaws. To replace tasklets, BH workqueue support was recently added. A BH workqueue behaves similarly to regular workqueues except that the queued work items are executed in the BH context. This patch converts drivers/media/* from tasklet to BH workqueue. 2023-03-19media: drop unnecessary networking includesJakub Kicinski1-0/+1
dvb_net.h includes a bunch of core networking headers which increases the number of objects rebuilt when we touch them. They are unnecessary for the header itself and only one driver has an indirect dependency. tveeprom.h includes if_packet to gain access to ETH_ALEN. This is a bit of an overkill because if_packet.h pulls in skbuff.h. The definition of ETH_ALEN is in the uAPI header, which is very rarely touched, so switch to including that. This results in roughly 250 fewer objects built when skbuff.h is touched (6028 -> 5788). The wrappers in include/linux/pci-dma-compat.h should go away. The patch has been generated with the coccinelle script below and has been hand modified to replace GFP_ with a correct flag. It has been compile tested. 2021-06-02media: av7110: move driver to stagingMauro Carvalho Chehab18-9675/+1
This driver is really old, from devices that aren't manufactured anymore for more than a decade. Also, the decoder supports only MPEG2, with is not compatible with several modern DVB streams. It is also the only upstream driver relying on the DVB "full-featured" API. Some changes at the frontend drivers seem to have broken it without anybody noticing. linux/netdevice.h is included in very many places, touching any of its dependecies causes large incremental builds. Drop the linux/ethtool.h include, linux/netdevice.h just needs a forward declaration of struct ethtool_ops. Fix all the places which made use of this implicit include. It sounds that earlier versions of GCC have troubles when doing const math at compile time, if no typecast is used: on i386: ERROR: modpost: "__floatunsidf" [drivers/media/pci/ttpci/dvb-ttpci.ko] undefined! ERROR: modpost: "__ltdf2" [drivers/media/pci/ttpci/dvb-ttpci.ko] undefined! The warning was generated on gcc (SUSE Linux) 7.5.0. Gcc 9.2 compiles it fine. value in debiirq() The value av7110->debi_virt is stored in DMA memory, and it is assigned to data, and thus data[0] can be modified at any time by malicious hardware. In this case, "if (data[0] < 2)" can be passed, but then data[0] can be changed into a large number, which may cause buffer overflow when the code "av7110->ci_slot[data[0]]" is used. To fix this possible bug, data[0] is assigned to a local variable, which replaces the use of data[0]. 2019-06-10media: ttpci: use rc-core for the IR receiverSean Young3-347/+111
The IR protocol can now only be set via the rc protocols sysfs file rather than via module parameters or a custom procfs file. So, it is no longer necessary to periodically check for protocol changes. The IR_RCMM protocol does not decode the Philips RC-MM protocol (12, 24 or 32 bit variants) or any protocol rc-core can encode, so this is marked RC_PROTO_UNKNOWN. Tested on Technotrend/Hauppauge WinTV Nexus-S rev2.1, which comes with a small black hauppauge remote. In both cases, it is fairly easy to handle the compat ioctls in the native handler rather than relying on translation in fs/compat_ioctls. In effect, this means that now the drivers implement both structure layouts in both native and compat mode, but I don't see anything wrong with that. Most DVB audio and video ioctl commands are completely compatible, and are implemented by just two drivers: ttpci and ivtv. In both cases, we can use the same ioctl handler for both native and compat ioctl handling, and remove the entries from the global lookup table. In case of ttpci, this directly hooks into the file_operations structure, and for ivtv, we have to set the compat_ioctl32 method in v4l2_file_operations. For all I can tell, setting it to video_ioctl2 will still do the right thing for all commands. Note that for the VIDEO_STILLPICTURE and VIDEO_GET_EVENT commands, a translation handler in fs/compat_ioctl.c is still used. This works because the command numbers are different on 32-bit systems.
