2024-07-03driver core: have match() callback in struct bus_type take a const *Greg Kroah-Hartman1-3/+3
In the match() callback, the struct device_driver * should not be changed, so change the function callback to be a const *. This is one step of many towards making the driver core safe to have struct device_driver in read-only memory. Because the match() callback is in all busses, all busses are modified to handle this properly. This does entail switching some container_of() calls to container_of_const() to properly handle the constant *. For some busses, like PCI and USB and HV, the const * is cast away in the match callback as those busses do want to modify those structures at this point in time (they have a local lock in the driver structure.) That will have to be changed in the future if they wish to have their struct device * in read-only-memory. Cc: Rafael J. The tty driver name is used also after registering the driver and must specifically not be allocated on the stack to avoid leaking information to user space (or triggering an oops). Drivers should not try to encode topology information in the tty device name but this one snuck in through staging without anyone noticing and another driver has since copied this malpractice. Fixing the ABI is a separate issue, but this at least plugs the security hole. The function tpci200_register called by tpci200_install and tpci200_unregister called by tpci200_uninstall are in pair. However, tpci200_unregister has some cleanup operations not in the tpci200_register. So the error handling code of tpci200_pci_probe has many different double free issues. 2021-07-27tty: stop using alloc_tty_driverJiri Slaby1-5/+4
alloc_tty_driver was deprecated by tty_alloc_driver in commit 7f0bc6a68ed9 (TTY: pass flags to alloc_tty_driver) in 2012. I never got into eliminating alloc_tty_driver until now. So we still have two functions for allocating drivers which might be confusing. So get rid of alloc_tty_driver uses to eliminate it for good in the next patch. Note we need to switch return value checking as tty_alloc_driver uses ERR_PTR. And flags are now a parameter of tty_alloc_driver. 2021-07-21bus: Make remove callback return voidUwe Kleine-König1-3/+1
The driver core ignores the return value of this callback because there is only little it can do when a device disappears. This is the final bit of a long lasting cleanup quest where several buses were converted to also return void from their remove callback. Additionally some resource leaks were fixed that were caused by drivers returning an error code in the expectation that the driver won't go away. With struct bus_type::remove returning void it's prevented that newly implemented buses return an ignored error code and so don't anticipate wrong expectations for driver authors. The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This patch replaces cases of: kzalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kcalloc(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant.
