The legay ide driver has been replace with libata starting in 2003 and has been scheduled for removal for a while. Finally kill it off so that we can start cleaning up various bits of cruft it forced on the block layer. 2021-06-10m68k/q40: Replace q40ide driver with pata_falcon and falconideFinn Thain1-13/+5
This allows m68k q40 systems to switch from the deprecated IDE subsystem to libata. Enhance the byte-swapping falconide and pata_falcon platform drivers to accept an irq resource, for use on q40. Atari ST-DMA IRQ arrangements seem to co-exist with q40 IRQ arrangements without too much mess. The new IO resources were added solely for the purpose of making request_region() reservations identical to those made by q40ide: these regions aren't used for actual IO. 2021-06-10m68k/mac: Replace macide driver with generic platform driversFinn Thain1-14/+0
This allows m68k mac systems to switch from the deprecated IDE subsystem to libata. This was tested on my Quadra 630. I haven't tested it on my PowerBook 150 because I don't have a RAM adapter board for it. It appears that the hardware I tested doesn't need macide_clear_irq() or macide_test_irq(). If it did, the generic driver would not have worked. It's possible that those routines are needed for the PowerBook 150 but we can cross that bridge if and when we come to it. BTW, macide_clear_irq() appears to suffer from a race condition. The write to the interrupt flags register could have unintended side effects as it may alter other flag bits. Fortunately, all of the other bits are unused by Linux. When tested on my Quadra 630, the assignment *ide_ifr &= ~0x20 was observed to have no effect on bit 5, so it may be redundant anyway. 2020-09-28ide/macide: Convert Mac IDE driver to platform driverFinn Thain1-3/+4
Add platform devices for the Mac IDE controller variants. Convert the macide module into a platform driver to support two of those variants. For the third, use a generic "pata_platform" driver instead. This enables automatic loading of the appropriate module and begins the process of replacing the driver with libata alternatives. 2020-06-14treewide: replace '---help---' in Kconfig files with 'help'Masahiro Yamada1-5/+5
Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over '---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances. This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation. After the cdrom cleanup, I get randconfig warnings for some configurations: warning: (BLK_DEV_IDECD && BLK_DEV_SR) selects CDROM which has unmet direct dependencies (BLK_DEV) This adds an explicit BLK_DEV dependency for both drivers. The other drivers that select 'CDROM' already have this and don't need a change. 2011-01-20kconfig: rename CONFIG_EMBEDDED to CONFIG_EXPERTDavid Rientjes1-1/+1
The meaning of CONFIG_EMBEDDED has long since been obsoleted; the option is used to configure any non-standard kernel with a much larger scope than only small devices. This patch renames the option to CONFIG_EXPERT in init/Kconfig and fixes references to the option throughout the kernel. A new CONFIG_EMBEDDED option is added that automatically selects CONFIG_EXPERT when enabled and can be used in the future to isolate options that should only be considered for embedded systems (RISC architectures, SLOB, etc). Calling the option "EXPERT" more accurately represents its intention: only expert users who understand the impact of the configuration changes they are making should enable it. The current Kconfig text for CONFIG_IDE doesn't give a hint to users that this subsystem is currently in maintenance mode and isn't actively developed. Let's correct this by marking it as deprecated, and also get rid of a bunch of unnecessary text that doesn't really have anything to do with what the option is for. This is IDE host driver for AT91 (SAM9, CAP9, AT572D940HF) Static Memory Controller with Compact Flash True IDE Mode logic. Driver have to switch 8/16 bit bus width when accessing Task Tile or Data Register. Moreover some extra things need to be done when setting PIO mode. Only PIO mode is used, hardware have no DMA support. If interrupt line is connected through GPIO extra quirk is needed to cope with fake interrupts. This is a port of libata's pata_cs5536.c (written by Martin K. Petersen) to IDE subsystem. Changes done while at it: * Reprogram PIO/MWDMA timings if needed before and after DMA transfer (chipset uses shared PIO/MWDMA timings). * Fix cable detection to report 80-wires cable if BIOS set it for any device on a port (IDE core will do drive-side cable detection later). * Don't disable UDMA while programming PIO timings. * Simplify PCI/MSR support. 2009-01-06Resurrect IT8172 IDE controller driverShane McDonald1-0/+7
Support for the IT8172 IDE controller was removed from the kernel sometime after 2.6.18. Support for the only boards that used the IT8172 was removed from the kernel after 2.6.18, as they had never compiled since 2.6.0. However, there are a couple of platforms that use this chip: the PMC-Sierra Xiao Hu thin-client computer, which is no longer in production, and the Linksys NSS4000 Network Attached Storage box, which is based on the Xiao Hu board. I am attempting to add support for the Xiao Hu to the kernel, and this IT8172 IDE controller is the first bit of code in this effort. This patch resurrects the IT8172 IDE controller code. I began with the 2.6.18 version of the it8172.c file, and have moved it forward so that it works with the latest version of the kernel. I have run this driver on a PMC-Sierra Xiao Hu board with the 2.6.28 kernel, and I have had no problems with it in my configuration. The attached patch applies cleanly against 2.6.28. As planed, this removes ide-scsi. The 2.6 kernel supports direct writing to ide CD drives, which eliminates the need for ide-scsi. ide-scsi has been unmaintained and marked as deprecated. This is the driver for the Toshiba TX4939 SoC ATA controller. This controller has standard ATA taskfile registers and DMA command/status registers, but the register layout is swapped on big endian. There are some other endian issue and some special registers which requires many custom dma_ops/tp_ops routines and build_dmatable.
