2024-09-02drm/i915 & drm/xe: save struct drm_device to drvdataJani Nikula1-1/+1
In the future, the display code shall not have any idea about struct xe_device or struct drm_i915_private, but will need to get at the struct drm_device via drvdata. Store the struct drm_device pointer to drvdata instead of the driver specific pointer. Avoid passing NULL to container_of() via to_i915()/to_xe_device(). (It does return NULL for NULL pointers when the offset happens to be 0, but otherwise returns garbage pointers for NULL.) https://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/drm/drm-intel into drm-next UAPI Changes: - drm/i915/guc: Use context hints for GT frequency Allow user to provide a low latency context hint. When set, KMD sends a hint to GuC which results in special handling for this context. SLPC will ramp the GT frequency aggressively every time it switches to this context. The down freq threshold will also be lower so GuC will ramp down the GT freq for this context more slowly. We also disable waitboost for this context as that will interfere with the strategy. We need to enable the use of SLPC Compute strategy during init, but it will apply only to contexts that set this bit during context creation. Userland can check whether this feature is supported using a new param- I915_PARAM_HAS_CONTEXT_FREQ_HINT. This flag is true for all guc submission enabled platforms as they use SLPC for frequency management. The Mesa usage model for this flag is here - https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/sushmave/mesa/-/commits/compute_hint - drm/i915/gt: Enable only one CCS for compute workload Enable only one CCS engine by default with all the compute sices allocated to it. While generating the list of UABI engines to be exposed to the user, exclude any additional CCS engines beyond the first instance *** NOTE: This W/A will make all DG2 SKUs appear like single CCS SKUs by default to mitigate a hardware bug. All the EUs will still remain usable, and all the userspace drivers have been confirmed to be able to dynamically detect the change in number of CCS engines and adjust. For the smaller percent of applications that get perf benefit from letting the userspace driver dispatch across all 4 CCS engines we will be introducing a sysfs control as a later patch to choose 4 CCS each with 25% EUs (or 50% if 2 CCS). 2024-03-06drm/i915/selftests: Fix dependency of some timeouts on HZJanusz Krzysztofik1-2/+4
Third argument of i915_request_wait() accepts a timeout value in jiffies. Most users pass either a simple HZ based expression, or a result of msecs_to_jiffies(), or MAX_SCHEDULE_TIMEOUT, or a very small number not exceeding 4 if applicable as that value. However, there is one user -- intel_selftest_wait_for_rq() -- that passes a WAIT_FOR_RESET_TIME symbol, defined as a large constant value that most probably represents a desired timeout in ms. While that usage results in the intended value of timeout on usual x86_64 kernel configurations, it is not portable across different architectures and custom kernel configs. Rename the symbol to clearly indicate intended units and convert it to jiffies before use. 2023-12-07drm/i915/selftests: Fix engine reset count storage for multi-tileTvrtko Ursulin2-5/+7

2023-07-27drm/i915/selftest/gsc: Ensure GSC Proxy init completes before selftestsAlan Previn1-0/+31
On MTL, if the GSC Proxy init flows haven't completed, submissions to the GSC engine will fail. Those init flows are dependent on the mei's gsc_proxy component that is loaded in parallel with i915 and a worker that could potentially start after i915 driver init is done. That said, all subsytems that access the GSC engine today does check for such init flow completion before using the GSC engine. However, selftests currently don't wait on anything before starting. To fix this, add a waiter function at the start of __run_selftests that waits for gsc-proxy init flows to complete. Selftests shouldn't care if the proxy-init failed as that should be flagged elsewhere. Difference from prior versions: v7: - Change the fw status to INTEL_UC_FIRMWARE_LOAD_FAIL if the proxy-init fails so that intel_gsc_uc_fw_proxy_get_status catches it. (Daniele) v6: - Add a helper that returns something more than a boolean so we selftest can stop waiting if proxy-init hadn't completed but failed (Daniele). v5: - Move the call to __wait_gsc_proxy_completed from common __run_selftests dispatcher to the group-level selftest function (Trvtko). - change the pr_info to pr_warn if we hit the timeout. v4: - Remove generalized waiters function table framework (Tvrtko). - Remove mention of CI-framework-timeout from comments (Tvrtko). v3: - Rebase to latest drm-tip. v2: - Based on internal testing, increase the timeout for gsc-proxy specific case to 8 seconds. 2023-05-11drm/i915: use pat_index instead of cache_levelFei Yang5-13/+23
Currently the KMD is using enum i915_cache_level to set caching policy for buffer objects. This is flaky because the PAT index which really controls the caching behavior in PTE has far more levels than what's defined in the enum. In addition, the PAT index is platform dependent, having to translate between i915_cache_level and PAT index is not reliable, and makes the code more complicated. From UMD's perspective there is also a necessity to set caching policy for performance fine tuning. It's much easier for the UMD to directly use PAT index because the behavior of each PAT index is clearly defined in Bspec. Having the abstracted i915_cache_level sitting in between would only cause more ambiguity. PAT is expected to work much like MOCS already works today, and by design userspace is expected to select the index that exactly matches the desired behavior described in the hardware specification. For these reasons this patch replaces i915_cache_level with PAT index. Also note, the cache_level is not completely removed yet, because the KMD still has the need of creating buffer objects with simple cache settings such as cached, uncached, or writethrough. For kernel objects, cache_level is used for simplicity and backward compatibility. For Pre-gen12 platforms PAT can have 1:1 mapping to i915_cache_level, so these two are interchangeable. see the use of LEGACY_CACHELEVEL. One consequence of this change is that gen8_pte_encode is no longer working for gen12 platforms due to the fact that gen12 platforms has different PAT definitions. In the meantime the mtl_pte_encode introduced specfically for MTL becomes generic for all gen12 platforms. This patch renames the MTL PTE encode function into gen12_pte_encode and apply it to all gen12. Even though this change looks unrelated, but separating them would temporarily break gen12 PTE encoding, thus squash them in one patch. Special note: this patch changes the way caching behavior is controlled in the sense that some objects are left to be managed by userspace. For such objects we need to be careful not to change the userspace settings. There are kerneldoc and comments added around obj->cache_coherent, cache_dirty, and how to bypass the checkings by i915_gem_object_has_cache_level. For full understanding, these changes need to be looked at together with the two follow-up patches, one disables the {set|get}_caching ioctl's and the other adds set_pat extension to the GEM_CREATE uAPI. 2023-05-11drm/i915: preparation for using PAT indexFei Yang1-0/+9
This patch is a preparation for replacing enum i915_cache_level with PAT index. Caching policy for buffer objects is set through the PAT index in PTE, the old i915_cache_level is not sufficient to represent all caching modes supported by the hardware. Preparing the transition by adding some platform dependent data structures and helper functions to translate the cache_level to pat_index. cachelevel_to_pat: a platform dependent array mapping cache_level to pat_index. max_pat_index: the maximum PAT index recommended in hardware specification Needed for validating the PAT index passed in from user space. i915_gem_get_pat_index: function to convert cache_level to PAT index. obj_to_i915(obj): macro moved to header file for wider usage. I915_MAX_CACHE_LEVEL: upper bound of i915_cache_level for the convenience of coding. 2023-04-19drm/i915/selftests: Consider multi-gt instead of to_gt()Tejas Upadhyay1-19/+27
In order to enable complete multi-GT, loop through all the GTs, rather than relying on the to_gt(), which only provides a reference to the primary GT. Problem appear when it runs on platform like MTL where different set of engines are possible on different GTs.
