2023-02-13char/agp: introduce asm-generic/agp.hMike Rapoport1-0/+1
There are several architectures that duplicate definitions of map_page_into_agp(), unmap_page_from_agp() and flush_agp_cache(). Define those in asm-generic/agp.h and use it instead of duplicated per-architecture headers. Signed-off-by: Mike Rapoport (IBM) <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <[email protected]>

2020-12-29local64.h: make <asm/local64.h> mandatoryRandy Dunlap1-1/+0
Make <asm-generic/local64.h> mandatory in include/asm-generic/Kbuild and remove all arch/*/include/asm/local64.h arch-specific files since they only #include <asm-generic/local64.h>. This fixes build errors on arch/c6x/ and arch/nios2/ for block/blk-iocost.c. Build-tested on 21 of 25 arch-es. (tools problems on the others) Yes, we could even rename <asm-generic/local64.h> to <linux/local64.h> and change all #includes to use <linux/local64.h> instead. 2020-04-02asm-generic: make more kernel-space headers mandatoryMasahiro Yamada1-18/+0
Change a header to mandatory-y if both of the following are met: [1] At least one architecture (except um) specifies it as generic-y in arch/*/include/asm/Kbuild [2] Every architecture (except um) either has its own implementation (arch/*/include/asm/*.h) or specifies it as generic-y in arch/*/include/asm/Kbuild This commit was generated by the following shell script. ----------------------------------->8----------------------------------- arches=$(cd arch; ls -1 | sed -e '/Kconfig/d' -e '/um/d') tmpfile=$(mktemp) grep "^mandatory-y +=" include/asm-generic/Kbuild > $tmpfile find arch -path 'arch/*/include/asm/Kbuild' | xargs sed -n 's/^generic-y += \(.*\)/\1/p' | sort -u | while read header do mandatory=yes for arch in $arches do if ! grep -q "generic-y += $header" arch/$arch/include/asm/Kbuild && ! [ -f arch/$arch/include/asm/$header ]; then mandatory=no break fi done if [ "$mandatory" = yes ]; then echo "mandatory-y += $header" >> $tmpfile for arch in $arches do sed -i "/generic-y += $header/d" arch/$arch/include/asm/Kbuild done fi done sed -i '/^mandatory-y +=/d' include/asm-generic/Kbuild LANG=C sort $tmpfile >> include/asm-generic/Kbuild ----------------------------------->8----------------------------------- One obvious benefit is the diff stat: 25 files changed, 52 insertions(+), 557 deletions(-) It is tedious to list generic-y for each arch that needs it. So, mandatory-y works like a fallback default (by just wrapping asm-generic one) when arch does not have a specific header implementation. See the following commits: def3f7cefe4e81c296090e1722a76551142c227c a1b39bae16a62ce4aae02d958224f19316d98b24 It is tedious to convert headers one by one, so I processed by a shell script. 2019-03-28KVM: export <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> iif KVM is supportedMasahiro Yamada1-0/+1
I do not see any consistency about headers_install of <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h>. According to my analysis of Linux 5.1-rc1, there are 3 groups: [1] Both <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> are exported alpha, arm, hexagon, mips, powerpc, s390, sparc, x86 [2] <asm/kvm_para.h> is exported, but <linux/kvm_para.h> is not arc, arm64, c6x, h8300, ia64, m68k, microblaze, nios2, openrisc, parisc, sh, unicore32, xtensa [3] Neither <linux/kvm_para.h> nor <asm/kvm_para.h> is exported csky, nds32, riscv This does not match to the actual KVM support. At least, [2] is half-baked. Nor do arch maintainers look like they care about this. For example, commit 0add53713b1c ("microblaze: Add missing kvm_para.h to Kbuild") exported <asm/kvm_para.h> to user-space in order to fix an in-kernel build error. We have two ways to make this consistent: [A] export both <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> for all architectures, irrespective of the KVM support [B] Match the header export of <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> to the KVM support My first attempt was [A] because the code looks cleaner, but Paolo suggested [B]. So, this commit goes with [B]. For most architectures, <asm/kvm_para.h> was moved to the kernel-space. I changed include/uapi/linux/Kbuild so that it checks generated asm/kvm_para.h as well as check-in ones. After this commit, there will be two groups: [1] Both <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> are exported arm, arm64, mips, powerpc, s390, x86 [2] Neither <linux/kvm_para.h> nor <asm/kvm_para.h> is exported alpha, arc, c6x, csky, h8300, hexagon, ia64, m68k, microblaze, nds32, nios2, openrisc, parisc, riscv, sh, sparc, unicore32, xtensa Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <[email protected]> Acked-by: Cornelia Huck <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <[email protected]>

2017-07-11parisc: move generic-y of exported headers to uapi/asm/KbuildMasahiro Yamada1-6/+1
Since commit fcc8487d477a ("uapi: export all headers under uapi directories"), all (and only) headers under uapi directories are exported, but asm-generic wrappers are still exceptions. To complete de-coupling the uapi from kernel headers, move generic-y of exported headers to uapi/asm/Kbuild. With this change, "make headers_install" will just need to parse uapi/asm/Kbuild to build up exported headers. Also, move "generic-y += kprobes.h" up in order to keep the entries sorted. 2017-02-27kprobes: move kprobe declarations to asm-generic/kprobes.hLuis R. Rodriguez1-0/+1
Often all is needed is these small helpers, instead of compiler.h or a full kprobes.h. This is important for asm helpers, in fact even some asm/kprobes.h make use of these helpers... instead just keep a generic asm file with helpers useful for asm code with the least amount of clutter as possible. Likewise we need now to also address what to do about this file for both when architectures have CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES, and when they do not. Then for when architectures have CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES but have disabled CONFIG_KPROBES. Right now most asm/kprobes.h do not have guards against CONFIG_KPROBES, this means most architecture code cannot include asm/kprobes.h safely. Correct this and add guards for architectures missing them. Additionally provide architectures that not have kprobes support with the default asm-generic solution. This lets us force asm/kprobes.h on the header include/linux/kprobes.h always, but most importantly we can now safely include just asm/kprobes.h on architecture code without bringing the full kitchen sink of header files. Two architectures already provided a guard against CONFIG_KPROBES on its kprobes.h: sh, arch. The rest of the architectures needed gaurds added. We avoid including any not-needed headers on asm/kprobes.h unless kprobes have been enabled. In a subsequent atomic change we can try now to remove compiler.h from include/linux/kprobes.h. During this sweep I've also identified a few architectures defining a common macro needed for both kprobes and ftrace, that of the definition of the breakput instruction up. Some refer to this as BREAKPOINT_INSTRUCTION. This must be kept outside of the #ifdef CONFIG_KPROBES guard. 2017-02-01sched/cputime: Remove generic asm headersFrederic Weisbecker1-1/+0
cputime_t is now only used by two architectures: * powerpc (when CONFIG_VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING_NATIVE=y) * s390 And since the core doesn't use it anymore, we don't need any arch support from the others. So we can remove their stub implementations. A final cleanup would be to provide an efficient pure arch implementation of cputime_to_nsec() for s390 and powerpc and finally remove include/linux/cputime.h . 2014-01-12arch: Clean up asm/barrier.h implementations using asm-generic/barrier.hPeter Zijlstra1-0/+1
We're going to be adding a few new barrier primitives, and in order to avoid endless duplication make more agressive use of asm-generic/barrier.h. Change the asm-generic/barrier.h such that it allows partial barrier definitions and fills out the rest with defaults. There are a few architectures (m32r, m68k) that could probably do away with their barrier.h file entirely but are kept for now due to their unconventional nop() implementation. 2012-11-13tracing,x86: Add a TSC trace_clockDavid Sharp1-0/+1
In order to promote interoperability between userspace tracers and ftrace, add a trace_clock that reports raw TSC values which will then be recorded in the ring buffer. Userspace tracers that also record TSCs are then on exactly the same time base as the kernel and events can be unambiguously interlaced. Tested: Enabled a tracepoint and the "tsc" trace_clock and saw very large timestamp values. v2: Move arch-specific bits out of generic code. v3: Rename "x86-tsc", cleanups v7: Generic arch bits in Kbuild. Ease the deployment of clkdev by providing a default asm/clkdev.h for use if the arch does not have an include/asm/clkdev.h.
