2021-11-07perf tools: Use __BYTE_ORDER__Ilya Leoshkevich1-1/+1
Switch from the libc-defined __BYTE_ORDER to the compiler-defined __BYTE_ORDER__ in order to make endianness detection more robust, like it was done for libbpf. 2021-02-18perf intel-pt: Retain the last PIP packet payload as isAdrian Hunter1-8/+4
Retain the PIP packet payload as is, instead of just the CR3, because it contains also the VMX NR flag which is needed to track VM-Entry. 2019-06-17perf intel-pt: Add new packets for PEBS via PTAdrian Hunter1-3/+137
Add 3 new packets to supports PEBS via PT, namely Block Begin Packet (BBP), Block Item Packet (BIP) and Block End Packet (BEP). PEBS data is encoded into multiple BIP packets that come between BBP and BEP. The BEP packet might be associated with a FUP packet. That is indicated by using a separate packet type (INTEL_PT_BEP_IP) similar to other packets types with the _IP suffix. Refer to the Intel SDM for more information about PEBS via PT: https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-sdm May 2019 version: Vol. 3B 18.5.5.2 PEBS output to IntelĀ® Processor Trace Decoding of BIP packets conflicts with single-byte TNT packets. Since BIP packets only occur in the context of a block (i.e. between BBP and BEP), that context must be recorded and passed to the packet decoder. 2017-06-21perf intel-pt: Add decoder support for ptwrite and power event packetsAdrian Hunter1-0/+108
Add decoder support for PTWRITE, MWAIT, PWRE, PWRX and EXSTOP packets. This patch only affects the decoder, so the tools still do not select or consume the new information. That is added in subsequent patches. 2016-08-12perf intel-pt: Fix ip compressionAdrian Hunter1-7/+17
The June 2015 Intel SDM introduced IP Compression types 4 and 6. Refer to section 36.4.2.2 Target IP (TIP) Packet - IP Compression. Existing Intel PT packet decoder did not support type 4, and got type 6 wrong. Because type 3 and type 4 have the same number of bytes, the packet 'count' has been changed from being the number of ip bytes to being the type code. That allows the Intel PT decoder to correctly decide whether to sign-extend or use the last ip. However that also meant the code had to be adjusted in a number of places. Currently hardware is not using the new compression types, so this fix has no effect on existing hardware. 2015-08-24perf tools: Add new Intel PT packet definitionsAdrian Hunter1-12/+130
New features have been added to Intel PT which include a number of new packet definitions. This patch adds packet definitions for new packets: TMA, MTC, CYC, VMCS, TRACESTOP and MNT. Also another bit in PIP is defined. This patch only adds support for the definitions. Later patches add support for decoding TMA, MTC, CYC and TRACESTOP which is where those packets are explained. VMCS and the newly defined bit in PIP are used with virtualization which is not supported yet. MNT is a maintenance packet which the decoder should ignore. For details, refer to the June 2015 or later Intel 64 and IA-32 Architectures SDM Chapter 36 Intel Processor Trace. 2015-08-17perf tools: Add Intel PT packet decoderAdrian Hunter1-0/+400
Add support for decoding Intel Processor Trace packets. This essentially provides intel_pt_get_packet() which takes a buffer of binary data and returns the decoded packet.
