2016-01-11tools: Move Makefile.arch from perf/config to tools/scriptsWang Nan1-1/+15
After this patch other directories can use this architecture detector without directly including it from perf's directory. make_kernelsrc and make_kernelsrc_tools are skiped if a previous build-test is done, because 'make build-test' creates two files with same names. Those tests take a long time and sometimes we stop it, so allow randomly shuffling the tests so that we have a better chance of running more of them in partial 'make build-test' runs. 2015-10-28perf tools: Make perf depend on libbpfWang Nan1-1/+3
By adding libbpf into perf's Makefile, this patch enables perf to build libbpf if libelf is found and neither NO_LIBELF nor NO_LIBBPF is set. The newly introduced code is similar to how libapi and libtraceevent are wired into Makefile.perf. MANIFEST is also updated for 'make perf-*-src-pkg'. Append make_no_libbpf to tools/perf/tests/make. The 'bpf' feature check is appended into default FEATURE_TESTS and FEATURE_DISPLAY, so perf will check the API version of bpf in /path/to/kernel/include/uapi/linux/bpf.h. Which should not fail except when we are trying to port this code to an old kernel. Error messages are also updated to notify users about the lack of BPF support in 'perf record' if libelf is missing or the BPF API check failed. tools/lib/bpf is added to TAG_FOLDERS to allow us to navigate libbpf files when working on perf using tools/perf/tags. 2015-06-22perf tests: Add testing for Makefile.perfJiri Olsa1-3/+20
Currently we test only builds through top level Makefile, but seems like there's a bunch of users using Makefile.perf directly. Changing the make suite to be run for Makefile.perf as well. It takes now considerable amount of time, but hopefully we catch more issues. Also fixing the output indentation for make_kernelsrc and make_kernelsrc_tools tests. 2015-03-19perf tools: Fix perf-read-vdsox32 not building and lib64 install dirH.J. Lu1-1/+1
Commit: c6e5e9fbc3ea ("perf tools: Fix building error in x86_64 when dwarf unwind is on") removed the definition of IS_X86_64 but not all places using it, with the consequence that perf-read-vdsox32 would not be built anymore, and the default lib install directory was 'lib' instead of 'lib64'. 2014-01-13perf tools: Add test for building detached source tarballsArnaldo Carvalho de Melo1-2/+8
Test one of the main kernel Makefile targets to generate a perf sources tarball suitable for build outside the full kernel sources. This is to test that the tools/perf/MANIFEST file lists all the files needed to be in such tarball, which sometimes gets broken when we move files around, like when we made some files that were in tools/perf/ available to other tools/ codebases by moving it to tools/include/, etc. Now everytime we use 'make -C tools/perf -f tests/make' this test will be performed, helping detect such problems earlier in the devel cycle. Adding automated test for testing the build process. To run it you need to be in perf directory or specify one with PERF variable. It's also possible to specify optional Makefile to test via MK variable. Whole suite is executed twice, the second time with O=/tmp/xxx option added. To run the whole suite: $ make -f tests/make - make_pure: cd . && make -f Makefile test: test -x ./perf - make_clean_all: cd . && make -f Makefile clean all test: test -x ./perf - make_python_perf_so: cd . && make -f Makefile python/perf.so test: test -f ./python/perf.so - make_debug: cd . && make -f Makefile DEBUG=1 test: test -x ./perf - make_no_libperl: cd . && make -f Makefile NO_LIBPERL=1 test: test -x ./perf You see command line for 'make_pure' test right away, and the output is stored into 'make_pure' file. To run simple test: $ make -f tests/make make_debug - make_debug: cd . && make -f Makefile DEBUG=1 test: test -x ./perf At this moment tests checks for successfull build and for existence of several built files. Additional after-build checks could be added.
