2024-06-20perf vendor events: Update broadwellde metrics add event counter informationIan Rogers15-37/+1333
Add counter information necessary for optimizing event grouping the perf tool. The most recent RFC patch set using this information: https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20240412210756.309828-1-weilin.wang@intel.com/ The information was added in: https://github.com/intel/perfmon/commit/475892a9690cb048949e593fe39cee65cd4765e1 and later patches. The TMA 4.8 information was updated in: https://github.com/intel/perfmon/commit/59194d4d90ca50a3fcb2de0d82b9f6fc0c9a5736 Co-authored-by: Weilin Wang <weilin.wang@intel.com> Co-authored-by: Caleb Biggers <caleb.biggers@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Ian Rogers <irogers@google.com> Reviewed-by: Kan Liang <kan.liang@linux.intel.com> Cc: Alexandre Torgue <alexandre.torgue@foss.st.com> Cc: Maxime Coquelin <mcoquelin.stm32@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Namhyung Kim <namhyung@kernel.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20240620181752.3945845-6-irogers@google.com
2024-02-29perf vendor events intel: Add umasks/occ_sel to PCU events.Ian Rogers1-0/+3
UMasks were being dropped leading to all PCU UNC_P_POWER_STATE_OCCUPANCY events having the same encoding. Don't drop the umask trying to be consistent with other sources of events like libpfm4 [1]. Older models need to use occ_sel rather than umask, correct these values too. This applies the change from [2]. 2024-02-16perf vendor events intel: Update broadwellde TMA metrics to 4.7Ian Rogers2-101/+97
Top-Down Microarchitecture Analysis (TMA) metrics simplify cycle-accounting using microarchitecture-abstracted metrics organized in one hierarchy. This update is from version 4.5 to 4.7. The update includes: - Reduce number of events (multiplexing) for tma_info_system_gflops, tma_info_core_flopc and tma_info_inst_mix_ipflop. - Removal of tma_info_bad_spec_branch_misprediction_cost. - Swapped tma_info_core_ilp (becomes per SMT thread) and tma_info_pipeline_execute (per physical core). - Tuned thresholds for tma_fetch_bandwidth and tma_ports_utilized_3m. The update came from: https://github.com/intel/perfmon/pull/140 https://github.com/intel/perfmon/pull/138 Running the script: https://github.com/intel/perfmon/blob/main/scripts/create_perf_json.py Signed-off-by: Ian Rogers <irogers@google.com> Reviewed-by: Kan Liang <kan.liang@linux.intel.com> Cc: Stephane Eranian <eranian@google.com> Cc: Caleb Biggers <caleb.biggers@intel.com> Cc: Edward Baker <edward.baker@intel.com> Cc: Perry Taylor <perry.taylor@intel.com> Cc: Samantha Alt <samantha.alt@intel.com> Cc: Weilin Wang <weilin.wang@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Namhyung Kim <namhyung@kernel.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20240214011820.644458-16-irogers@google.com

2023-05-10perf metric: JSON flag to not group events if gathering a metric groupIan Rogers1-0/+12
Some metric groups have metrics that don't have fully overlapping events, meaning that the group's events become unique event groups that may need to multiplex with each other. This can be particularly unfortunate when the groups wouldn't need to multiplex because there are sufficient hardware counters. Add a flag so that if recording a metric group then the metrics within the group needn't use groups for their events. The flag is added to Intel TopdownL1 and TopdownL2 metrics. 2022-12-21perf vendor events intel: Refresh broadwellde metrics and eventsIan Rogers12-1735/+210
Update the broadwellde metrics and events using the new tooling from: https://github.com/intel/perfmon The metrics vary as tma_false_sharing, MEM_Parallel_Requests and MEM_Request_Latency are explicitly dropped from having missing events: https://github.com/captain5050/perfmon/blob/main/scripts/create_perf_json.py#L934 The formulas also differ due to parentheses, use of exponents and removal of redundant operations like "* 1". The events are unchanged but unused json values are removed and implicit umasks of 0 are dropped. This increases consistency across the json files. mapfile.csv's version number is set to match that in the perfmon repository. 2022-02-14perf vendor events: Update metrics for Broadwell DEIan Rogers8-2324/+2620
Based on TMA_metrics-full.csv version 4.3 at 01.org: https://download.01.org/perfmon/ Events are still at version 7: https://download.01.org/perfmon/BDW-DE Json files generated by: https://github.com/intel/event-converter-for-linux-perf This adds TopdownL1_SMT metrics to bdwde-metrics.json. A discussed in: https://lore.kernel.org/all/20220129080929.837293-4-irogers@google.com/ The TMA_Metrics-full.csv was modified so that BDW-DE is in the server column with BDX, the Page_Walks_Utilization and Page_Walks_Utilization_SMT metrics are then copied from BDW. Tested: ... 6: Parse event definition strings : Ok 7: Simple expression parser : Ok ... 9: Parse perf pmu format : Ok 10: PMU events : 10.1: PMU event table sanity : Ok 10.2: PMU event map aliases : Ok 10.3: Parsing of PMU event table metrics : Ok 10.4: Parsing of PMU event table metrics with fake PMUs : Ok ... 68: Parse and process metrics : Ok ... 88: perf stat metrics (shadow stat) test : Ok 89: perf all metricgroups test : Ok 90: perf all metrics test : Skip 91: perf all PMU test : Ok ... 90 skips due to a lack of floating point samples, which is understandable. 2020-04-03perf pmu-events x86: Use CPU_CLK_UNHALTED.THREAD in Kernel_Utilization metricJin Yao1-1/+1
The kernel utilization metric does multiplexing currently and is somewhat unreliable. The problem is that it uses two instances of the fixed counter, and the kernel has to multipleplex which causes errors. So should use CPU_CLK_UNHALTED.THREAD instead. Before: # perf stat -M Kernel_Utilization -- sleep 1 Performance counter stats for 'sleep 1': 1,419,425 cpu_clk_unhalted.ref_tsc:k <not counted> cpu_clk_unhalted.ref_tsc (0.00%) After: # perf stat -M Kernel_Utilization -- sleep 1 Performance counter stats for 'sleep 1': 746,688 cpu_clk_unhalted.thread:k # 0.7 Kernel_Utilization 1,088,348 cpu_clk_unhalted.thread Signed-off-by: Jin Yao <yao.jin@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Andi Kleen <ak@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Kan Liang <kan.liang@linux.intel.com> Cc: Alexander Shishkin <alexander.shishkin@linux.intel.com> Cc: Jin Yao <yao.jin@intel.com> Cc: Jiri Olsa <jolsa@kernel.org> Cc: Peter Zijlstra <peterz@infradead.org> Link: http://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20200309013125.7559-1-yao.jin@linux.intel.com Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com>

2018-12-17perf vendor events intel: Fix diverse typosIngo Molnar2-3/+3
Go over the tools/ files that are maintained in Arnaldo's tree and fix common typos: half of them were in comments, the other half in JSON files. ( Care should be taken not to re-import these typos in the future, if the JSON files get updated by the vendor without fixing the typos. ) No change in functionality intended. Committer notes: This was split from a larger patch as there are code that is, additionally, maintained outside the kernel tree, so to ease cherry picking and/or backporting, split this into multiple patches.
