2013-01-25Merge 3.8-rc5 into tty-nextGreg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+3
This resolves a number of tty driver merge issues found in linux-next Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <[email protected]>
2013-01-18USB: io_ti: kill custom closing_wait implementationJohan Hovold1-48/+9
Kill custom closing_wait implementation and let the tty layer handle it instead. Signed-off-by: Johan Hovold <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <[email protected]>
2013-01-18USB: io_ti: query hardware-buffer status in chars_in_bufferJohan Hovold1-0/+7
Query hardware-buffer status in chars_in_buffer should the write fifo be empty. This is needed to make the tty layer wait for hardware buffers to drain on close. Signed-off-by: Johan Hovold <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <[email protected]>
2013-01-18USB: io_ti: use tty-port drain delayJohan Hovold1-12/+2
Use tty-port drain delay rather than custom implementation in chase_port. Signed-off-by: Johan Hovold <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <[email protected]>
2013-01-18USB: io_ti: move write-fifo flushing to closeJohan Hovold1-7/+7
Move write-fifo flushing from chase_port to close where it belongs. Signed-off-by: Johan Hovold <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <[email protected]>
2013-01-17USB: io_ti: Fix NULL dereference in chase_port()Wolfgang Frisch1-0/+3
The tty is NULL when the port is hanging up. chase_port() needs to check for this. This patch is intended for stable series. The behavior was observed and tested in Linux 3.2 and 3.7.1. Johan Hovold submitted a more elaborate patch for the mainline kernel. 2013-01-15TTY: switch tty_flip_buffer_pushJiri Slaby1-18/+9
Now, we start converting tty buffer functions to actually use tty_port. This will allow us to get rid of the need of tty in many call sites. Only tty_port will needed and hence no more tty_port_tty_get in those paths. Now, the one where most of tty_port_tty_get gets removed: tty_flip_buffer_push. IOW we also closed all the races in drivers not using tty_port_tty_get at all yet. Also we move tty_flip_buffer_push declaration from include/linux/tty.h to include/linux/tty_flip.h to all others while we are changing it anyway. 2012-10-31USB: serial: remove driver version informationJohan Hovold1-4/+0
Remove all MODULE_VERSION macros and driver-version information (except for garmin_gps which uses it in a status reply). It is the kernel version that matters and not some private version scheme which rarely even gets updated. 2012-10-18USB: io_ti: fix sysfs-attribute creationJohan Hovold1-7/+7
Make sure port data is initialised before creating sysfs attributes to avoid a race. A recent patch ("USB: io_ti: fix port-data memory leak") got the sysfs-attribute creation and port-data initialisation ordering wrong. Fix port-data memory leak by moving port data allocation and deallocation to port_probe and port_remove. Since commit 0998d0631001288 (device-core: Ensure drvdata = NULL when no driver is bound) the port private data is no longer freed at release as it is no longer accessible. Compile-only tested. Pull USB changes from Greg Kroah-Hartman: "Here is the big USB pull request for 3.7-rc1 There are lots of gadget driver changes (including copying a bunch of files into the drivers/staging/ccg/ directory so that the other gadget drivers can be fixed up properly without breaking that driver), and we remove the old obsolete ub.c driver from the tree. There are also the usual XHCI set of updates, and other various driver changes and updates. We also are trying hard to remove the old dbg() macro, but the final bits of that removal will be coming in through the networking tree before we can delete it for good. All of these patches have been in the linux-next tree. 2012-05-08USB: serial: rework usb_serial_register/deregister_drivers()Greg Kroah-Hartman1-7/+1
This reworks the usb_serial_register_drivers() and usb_serial_deregister_drivers() to not need a pointer to a struct usb_driver anymore. The usb_driver structure is now created dynamically and registered and unregistered as needed. This saves lines of code in each usb-serial driver. All in-kernel users of these functions were also fixed up at this time. The pl2303 driver was tested that everything worked properly. Thanks for the idea to do this from Alan Stern. module_param(bool) used to counter-intuitively take an int. In fddd5201 (mid-2009) we allowed bool or int/unsigned int using a messy trick. It's time to remove the int/unsigned int option. For this version it'll simply give a warning, but it'll break next kernel version. Acked-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <[email protected]>

We don't actually need this and it causes problems for internal use of this functionality. Currently there is a single use of the FILE * pointer. That is the serial core which uses it to check tty_hung_up_p. However if that is true then IO_ERROR is also already set so the check may be removed. If we can't read the firmware for a device from the disk, and yet the device already has a valid firmware image in it, we don't want to replace the firmware with something invalid.
