2020-05-28drm/[radeon|amdgpu]: Replace one-element array and use struct_size() helperGustavo A. R. Silva1-3/+2
The current codebase makes use of one-element arrays in the following form: struct something { int length; u8 data[1]; }; struct something *instance; instance = kmalloc(sizeof(*instance) + size, GFP_KERNEL); instance->length = size; memcpy(instance->data, source, size); but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on. So, replace the one-element array with a flexible-array member. Also, make use of the new struct_size() helper to properly calculate the size of struct SISLANDS_SMC_SWSTATE. This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle and, audited and fixed _manually_. 2020-03-30PCI: Use ioremap(), not phys_to_virt() for platform ROMMikel Rychliski1-11/+19
On some EFI systems, the video BIOS is provided by the EFI firmware. The boot stub code stores the physical address of the ROM image in pdev->rom. Currently we attempt to access this pointer using phys_to_virt(), which doesn't work with CONFIG_HIGHMEM. On these systems, attempting to load the radeon module on a x86_32 kernel can result in the following: BUG: unable to handle page fault for address: 3e8ed03c #PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode #PF: error_code(0x0000) - not-present page *pde = 00000000 Oops: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP CPU: 0 PID: 317 Comm: systemd-udevd Not tainted 5.6.0-rc3-next-20200228 #2 Hardware name: Apple Computer, Inc. Instead of calling the helper function pci_platform_rom() which uses phys_to_virt(), call ioremap() directly on the pdev->rom. radeon_read_platform_bios() previously directly accessed an __iomem pointer. Avoid this by calling memcpy_fromio() instead of kmemdup(). pci_platform_rom() now has no remaining callers, so remove it. It's the last user, and more importantly, it's the last non-legacy user of anything in drm_pci.c. The only tricky bit is the agp initialization. But a close look shows that radeon does not use the drm_agp midlayer (the main use of that is drm_bufs for legacy drivers), and instead could use the agp subsystem directly (like nouveau does already). 2020-02-04kbuild: rename hostprogs-y/always to hostprogs/always-yMasahiro Yamada1-1/+1
In old days, the "host-progs" syntax was used for specifying host programs. It was renamed to the current "hostprogs-y" in 2004. It is typically useful in scripts/Makefile because it allows Kbuild to selectively compile host programs based on the kernel configuration. This commit renames like follows: always -> always-y hostprogs-y -> hostprogs So, scripts/Makefile will look like this: always-$(CONFIG_BUILD_BIN2C) += ... always-$(CONFIG_KALLSYMS) += ... ... hostprogs := $(always-y) $(always-m) I think this makes more sense because a host program is always a host program, irrespective of the kernel configuration. We want to specify which ones to compile by CONFIG options, so always-y will be handier. The "always", "hostprogs-y", "hostprogs-m" will be kept for backward compatibility for a while.
