2023-03-14drm: Drop ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM from dependenciesUwe Kleine-König1-1/+1
Some of these dependencies used to be sensible when only a small part of the platforms supported by ARCH=arm could be compiled together in a single kernel image. Nowadays ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM is only used as a guard for kernel options incompatible with a multiplatform image. See commit 84fc86360623 ("ARM: make ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM user-visible") for some more details. 2023-02-21drm/fb-helper: Remove drm_fb_helper_unprepare() from drm_fb_helper_fini()Thomas Zimmermann1-0/+2
Move drm_fb_helper_unprepare() from drm_fb_helper_fini() into the calling fbdev implementation. Avoids a possible stale mutex with generic fbdev code. As indicated by its name, drm_fb_helper_prepare() prepares struct drm_fb_helper before setting up the fbdev support with a call to drm_fb_helper_init(). In legacy fbdev emulation, this happens next to each other. If successful, drm_fb_helper_fini() later tear down the fbdev device and also unprepare via drm_fb_helper_unprepare(). Generic fbdev emulation prepares struct drm_fb_helper immediately after allocating the instance. It only calls drm_fb_helper_init() as part of processing a hotplug event. If the hotplug-handling fails, it runs drm_fb_helper_fini(). This unprepares the fb-helper instance and the next hotplug event runs on stale data. Solve this by moving drm_fb_helper_unprepare() from drm_fb_helper_fini() into the fbdev implementations. Call it right before freeing the fb-helper instance. 2022-03-28drm: omapdrm: Do no allocate non-scanout GEMs through DMM/TILERIvaylo Dimitrov1-4/+8
On devices with DMM, all allocations are done through either DMM or TILER. DMM/TILER being a limited resource means that such allocations will start to fail before actual free memory is exhausted. What is even worse is that with time DMM/TILER space gets fragmented to the point that even if we have enough free DMM/TILER space and free memory, allocation fails because there is no big enough free block in DMM/TILER space. Such failures can be easily observed with OMAP xorg DDX, for example - starting few GUI applications (so buffers for their windows are allocated) and then rotating landscape<->portrait while closing and opening new windows soon results in allocation failures. Fix that by mapping buffers through DMM/TILER only when really needed, like, for scanout buffers. 2022-03-28drm: omapdrm: Support exporting of non-contiguous GEM BOsIvaylo Dimitrov3-60/+73
Currently code allocates non-scanout BOs from SHMEM and those objects are accessible to userspace by mmap(). However, on devices with no DMM (like OMAP3), the same objects are not accessible by kernel drivers that want to render to them as code refuses to export them. In turn this means that on devices with no DMM, all buffers must be allocated as scanout, otherwise only CPU can access them. On those devices, scanout buffers are allocated from CMA, making those allocations highly unreliable. Fix that by implementing functionality to export SHMEM backed buffers on devices with no DMM. This makes CMA memory only being used when needed, instead for every buffer that has to be off-CPU rendered. 2021-12-08drm/omap: Add a 'right overlay' to plane stateBenoit Parrot7-12/+267
If the drm_plane has a source width that's greater than the max width supported by a single hw overlay, then we assign a 'r_overlay' to it in omap_plane_atomic_check(). Both overlays should have the capabilities required to handle the source framebuffer. The only parameters that vary between the left and right hwoverlays are the src_w, crtc_w, src_x and crtc_x as we just even chop the fb into left and right halves. We also take care of not creating odd width size when dealing with YUV formats. Since both halves need to be 'appear' side by side the zpos is recalculated when dealing with dual overlay cases so that the other planes zpos is consistent. Depending on user space usage it is possible that on occasion the number of requested planes exceeds the numbers of overlays required to display them. In that case a failure would be returned for the plane that cannot be handled at that time. It is up to user space to make sure the H/W resource are not over-subscribed. 2021-12-08drm/omap: dynamically assign hw overlays to planesBenoit Parrot4-23/+220
(re)assign the hw overlays to planes based on required caps, and to handle situations where we could not modify an in-use plane. This means all planes advertise the superset of formats and properties. Userspace must (as always) use atomic TEST_ONLY step for atomic updates, as not all planes may be available for use on every frame. The mapping of hwoverlays to plane is stored in omap_global_state, so that state updates are atomically committed in the same way that plane/etc state updates are managed. This is needed because the omap_plane_state keeps a pointer to the hwoverlay, and we don't want global state to become out of sync with the plane state if an atomic update fails, we hit deadlock/ backoff scenario, etc. The use of global_state_lock keeps multiple parallel updates which both re-assign hwoverlays properly serialized. 2021-12-08drm/omap: Add global state as a private atomic objectBenoit Parrot2-3/+105
Global shared resources (like hw overlays) for omapdrm are implemented as a part of atomic state using the drm_private_obj infrastructure available in the atomic core. omap_global_state is introduced as a drm atomic private object. The two funcs omap_get_global_state() and omap_get_existing_global_state() are the two variants that will be used to access omap_global_state. drm_mode_config_init() needs to be called earlier because it creates/initializes the private_obj link list maintained by the atomic framework. The private_obj link list has to exist prior to calling drm_atomic_private_obj_init(). Similarly the cleanup handler are reordered appropriately. Split out the hardware overlay specifics from omap_plane. To start, the hw overlays are statically assigned to planes. Fix that by providing sg that correctly describes TILER memory layout. Align TILER allocations to page, so importer to be able to correctly set its MMU if have one. 2021-11-10drm/omap: increase DSS5 max tv pclk to 192MHzTomi Valkeinen1-1/+1
DSS5's maximum tv pclk rate (i.e. HDMI) is set to 186MHz, which comes from the TRM (DPLL_HDMI_CLK1 frequency must be lower than 186 MHz). To support DRA76's wide screen HDMI feature, we need to increase this maximum rate. Testing shows that the PLL seems to work fine even with ~240MHz clocks, and even the HDMI output at that clock is stable enough for monitors to show a picture. This holds true for all DRA7 and AM5 SoCs (and probably also for OMAP5). However, the highest we can go without big refactoring to the clocking code is 192MHz, as that is the DSS func clock we get from the PRCM. So, increase the max HDMI pixel clock to 192MHz for now, to allow some more 2k+ modes to work. This patch never had a clear confirmation from HW people, but this change stayed on production trees for multiple years without any report on an eventual breakage.
