dcss currently allocates and ioremaps quite a few resources in its probe function's call graph. Devres now provides convenient functions which perform the same task but do the cleanup automatically. The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new(), which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() will be renamed to .remove(). Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. Based on grepping through the source code this driver appears to be missing a call to drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at system shutdown time. Among other things, this means that if a panel is in use that it won't be cleanly powered off at system shutdown time. The fact that we should call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() in the case of OS shutdown/restart comes straight out of the kernel doc "driver instance overview" in drm_drv.c. Among other things, this means that if a panel is in use that it won't be cleanly powered off at system shutdown time. The fact that we should call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() in the case of OS shutdown/restart and at driver remove (or unbind) time comes straight out of the kernel doc "driver instance overview" in drm_drv.c. A few notes about this fix: - When adding drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() to the unbind path, I added it after drm_kms_helper_poll_fini() since that's when other drivers seemed to have it. - Technically with a previous patch, ("drm/atomic-helper: drm_atomic_helper_shutdown(NULL) should be a noop"), we don't actually need to check to see if our "drm" pointer is NULL before calling drm_atomic_helper_shutdown(). We'll leave the "if" test in, though, so that this patch can land without any dependencies. It could potentially be removed later. - This patch also makes sure to set the drvdata to NULL in the case of bind errors to make sure that shutdown can't access freed data. When hactive is not aligned to 8 pixels, it is aligned accordingly and hfront porch needs to be reduced the same amount. Unfortunately the front porch is set to the difference rather than reducing it. There are some Samsung TVs which can't cope with a front porch of instead of 70. 2023-07-21drm: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring2-3/+4
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. 2023-03-14drm: Drop ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM from dependenciesUwe Kleine-König1-1/+1
Some of these dependencies used to be sensible when only a small part of the platforms supported by ARCH=arm could be compiled together in a single kernel image. Nowadays ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM is only used as a guard for kernel options incompatible with a multiplatform image. ipu_src_rect_width() was introduced to support odd screen resolutions such as 1366x768 by internally rounding up primary plane width to a multiple of 8 and compensating with reduced horizontal blanking. This also caused overlay plane width to be rounded up, which was not intended. Fix overlay plane width by limiting the rounding up to the primary plane. drm_rect_width(&new_state->src) >> 16 is the same value as drm_rect_width(dst) because there is no plane scaling support. 2022-12-12drm: imx/dcss: Remove #ifdef guards for PM related functionsPaul Cercueil3-19/+13
Use the EXPORT_GPL_DEV_PM_OPS() and pm_ptr() macros to handle the PM callbacks. These macros allow the PM functions to be automatically dropped by the compiler when CONFIG_PM is disabled, without having to use #ifdef guards. This has the advantage of always compiling these functions in, independently of any Kconfig option. Thanks to that, bugs and other regressions are subsequently easier to catch. When DCSS + MIPI_DSI is used, and the last bridge in the chain supports HPD, we can see a "Hot plug detection already enabled" warning stack trace dump that's thrown when DCSS is initialized. The problem appeared when HPD was enabled by default in the bridge_connector initialization, which made the drm_bridge_connector_enable_hpd() call, in DCSS init path, redundant. So, let's remove that call. The field paddr of struct drm_gem_dma_object holds a DMA address, which might actually be a physical address. However, depending on the platform, it can also be a bus address or a virtual address managed by an IOMMU. Hence, rename the field to dma_addr, which is more applicable. Besides that, commit e57924d4ae80 ("drm/doc: Task to rename CMA helpers") requests to rename the CMA helpers and implies that people seem to be confused about the naming. Rename "FB CMA" helpers to "FB DMA" helpers - considering the hierarchy of APIs (mm/cma -> dma -> fb dma) calling them "FB DMA" seems to be more applicable. Besides that, commit e57924d4ae80 ("drm/doc: Task to rename CMA helpers") requests to rename the CMA helpers and implies that people seem to be confused about the naming. This patch is compile-time tested building a x86_64 kernel with `make allyesconfig && make drivers/gpu/drm`.
