2022-12-16drm/imx: move IPUv3 driver into separate subdirectoryLucas Stach1-383/+0
The IPUv3 and DCSS driver are two totally separate DRM drivers. Having one of them live in the drivers/gpu/drm/imx toplevel directory and the other one in the dcss/ subdirectory is confusing. Move the IPUv3 driver into its own subdirectory to make the separation more clear. 2022-03-16drm/imx: parallel-display: Remove bus flags check in ↵Christoph Niedermaier1-8/+0
imx_pd_bridge_atomic_check() If display timings were read from the devicetree using of_get_display_timing() and pixelclk-active is defined there, the flag DISPLAY_FLAGS_SYNC_POSEDGE/NEGEDGE is automatically generated. Through the function drm_bus_flags_from_videomode() e.g. called in the panel-simple driver this flag got into the bus flags, but then in imx_pd_bridge_atomic_check() the bus flag check failed and will not initialize the display. The original commit fe141cedc433 does not explain why this check was introduced. So remove the bus flags check, because it stops the initialization of the display with valid bus flags. 2020-07-20drm/imx: fix use after freePhilipp Zabel1-5/+10
Component driver structures allocated with devm_kmalloc() in bind() are freed automatically after unbind(). Since the contained drm structures are accessed afterwards in drm_mode_config_cleanup(), move the allocation into probe() to extend the driver structure's lifetime to the lifetime of the device. This should eventually be changed to use drm resource managed allocations with lifetime of the drm device. We also need to ensure that all componets are available during the unbind() so we need to call component_unbind_all() before we free non-devres resources like planes. Note this patch fixes the the use after free bug but introduces a possible boot loop issue. The issue is triggered if the HDMI support is enabled and a component driver always return -EPROBE_DEFER, see discussion [1] for more details. 2020-02-26drm/bridge: Extend bridge API to disable connector creationLaurent Pinchart1-2/+2
Most bridge drivers create a DRM connector to model the connector at the output of the bridge. This model is historical and has worked pretty well so far, but causes several issues: - It prevents supporting more complex display pipelines where DRM connector operations are split over multiple components. For instance a pipeline with a bridge connected to the DDC signals to read EDID data, and another one connected to the HPD signal to detect connection and disconnection, will not be possible to support through this model. - It requires every bridge driver to implement similar connector handling code, resulting in code duplication. - It assumes that a bridge will either be wired to a connector or to another bridge, but doesn't support bridges that can be used in both positions very well (although there is some ad-hoc support for this in the analogix_dp bridge driver). In order to solve these issues, ownership of the connector should be moved to the display controller driver (where it can be implemented using helpers provided by the core). Extend the bridge API to allow disabling connector creation in bridge drivers as a first step towards the new model. The new flags argument to the bridge .attach() operation allows instructing the bridge driver to skip creating a connector. Unconditionally set the new flags argument to 0 for now to keep the existing behaviour, and modify all existing bridge drivers to return an error when connector creation is not requested as they don't support this feature yet. The change is based on the following semantic patch, with manual review and edits. @ rule1 @ identifier funcs; identifier fn; @@ struct drm_bridge_funcs funcs = { ..., .attach = fn }; @ depends on rule1 @ identifier rule1.fn; identifier bridge; statement S, S1; @@ int fn( struct drm_bridge *bridge + , enum drm_bridge_attach_flags flags ) { ... when != S + if (flags & DRM_BRIDGE_ATTACH_NO_CONNECTOR) { + DRM_ERROR("Fix bridge driver to make connector optional!"); + return -EINVAL; + } + S1 ... } @ depends on rule1 @ identifier rule1.fn; identifier bridge, flags; expression E1, E2, E3; @@ int fn( struct drm_bridge *bridge, enum drm_bridge_attach_flags flags ) { <... drm_bridge_attach(E1, E2, E3 + , flags ) ...> } @@ expression E1, E2, E3; @@ drm_bridge_attach(E1, E2, E3 + , 0 ) Signed-off-by: Laurent Pinchart <[email protected]> Reviewed-by: Boris Brezillon <[email protected]> Acked-by: Sam Ravnborg <[email protected]> Reviewed-by: Tomi Valkeinen <[email protected]> Tested-by: Sebastian Reichel <[email protected]> Reviewed-by: Sebastian Reichel <[email protected]> Acked-by: Daniel Vetter <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Tomi Valkeinen <[email protected]> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/[email protected]
2020-01-31drm/imx: pd: Use bus format/flags provided by the bridge when availableBoris Brezillon1-25/+151

2019-01-24drm: Split out drm_probe_helper.hDaniel Vetter1-1/+1
Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is confusing. Split them out. To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of drm_crtc_helper.h includes. v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1. v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means rolling out lots more includes all over. This will also conflict with ongoing drmP.h cleanup by others I expect. v3: Rebase on top of atomic bochs. v4: Review from Laurent for bridge/rcar/omap/shmob/core bits: - (re)move some of the added includes, use the better include files in other places (all suggested from Laurent adopted unchanged). - sort alphabetically v5: Actually try to sort them, and while at it, sort all the ones I touch. v6: Rebase onto i915 changes. v7: Rebase once more. 2017-07-17drm/imx: parallel-display: Accept drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge failurePhilipp Zabel1-1/+1
The parallel panel driver should continue to work without having an endpoint linking to an panel in DT for backwards compatibility. With the recent switch to drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge, an absent panel results in a failure with -ENODEV error return code. To restore the old behaviour, ignore the -ENODEV return code. Similar to the previous commit, convert drivers open coding OF graph parsing to use drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge instead. This changes some error messages to debug messages (in the graph core). Graph connections are often "no connects" depending on the particular board, so we want to avoid spurious messages. Plus the kernel is not a DT validator. 2016-12-01drm: Make the connector .detect() callback optionalLaurent Pinchart1-7/+0
Many drivers (21 to be exact) create connectors that are always connected (for instance to an LVDS or DSI panel). Now that we can use atomic configurations, all the legacy callbacks of CRTCs, encoders and connectors can be switched to the atomic version. For the imx-ldb driver, there is a clock parent setting mismatch bewteen ->enable and ->disable after the switch, so a fixup is added. For the imx-tve driver, since the encoder's callback ->dpms is replaced by ->disable, we need to move the setting for the IPU_CLK_EN bit(in register TVE_COM_CONF_REG) from ->enable/->disable to ->mode_set, otherwise, the relevant CRTC cannot be disabled correctly with a warning on DC stop timeout.
