This reverts commit f9d00a4a8dc8fff951c97b3213f90d6bc7a72175. This causes problem for KFD because when we overcommit we accidentially bind the BO to GTT for moving it into VRAM. We also need to make sure that this is done only as fallback after trying to evict first. 2022-12-06drm/amdgpu: generally allow over-commit during BO allocationChristian König1-13/+3
We already fallback to a dummy BO with no backing store when we allocate GDS,GWS and OA resources and to GTT when we allocate VRAM. Drop all those workarounds and generalize this for GTT as well. This fixes ENOMEM issues with runaway applications which try to allocate/free GTT in a loop and are otherwise only limited by the CPU speed. The CS will wait for the cleanup of freed up BOs to satisfy the various domain specific limits and so effectively throttle those buggy applications down to a sane allocation behavior again. 2022-11-17drm/amdgpu: fix userptr HMM range handling v2Christian König1-2/+4
The basic problem here is that it's not allowed to page fault while holding the reservation lock. So it can happen that multiple processes try to validate an userptr at the same time. 2022-04-07dma-buf: add enum dma_resv_usage v4Christian König1-1/+2
This change adds the dma_resv_usage enum and allows us to specify why a dma_resv object is queried for its containing fences. Additional to that a dma_resv_usage_rw() helper function is added to aid retrieving the fences for a read or write userspace submission. This is then deployed to the different query functions of the dma_resv object and all of their users. 2021-12-28drm/amdgpu: Don't inherit GEM object VMAs in child processRajneesh Bhardwaj1-0/+3
When an application having open file access to a node forks, its shared mappings also get reflected in the address space of child process even though it cannot access them with the object permissions applied. With the existing permission checks on the gem objects, it might be reasonable to also create the VMAs with VM_DONTCOPY flag so a user space application doesn't need to explicitly call the madvise(addr, len, MADV_DONTFORK) system call to prevent the pages in the mapped range to appear in the address space of the child process. It also prevents the memory leaks due to additional reference counts on the mapped BOs in the child process that prevented freeing the memory in the parent for which we had worked around earlier in the user space inside the thunk library. Additionally, we faced this issue when using CRIU to checkpoint restore an application that had such inherited mappings in the child which confuse CRIU when it mmaps on restore. Having this flag set for the render node VMAs helps. VMAs mapped via KFD already take care of this so this is needed only for the render nodes. To limit the impact of the change to user space consumers such as OpenGL etc, limit it to KFD BOs only. 2021-11-05drm/ttm: remove ttm_bo_vm_insert_huge()Jason Gunthorpe1-1/+1
The huge page functionality in TTM does not work safely because PUD and PMD entries do not have a special bit. get_user_pages_fast() considers any page that passed pmd_huge() as usable: if (unlikely(pmd_trans_huge(pmd) || pmd_huge(pmd) || pmd_devmap(pmd))) { And vmf_insert_pfn_pmd_prot() unconditionally sets entry = pmd_mkhuge(pfn_t_pmd(pfn, prot)); eg on x86 the page will be _PAGE_PRESENT | PAGE_PSE. As such gup_huge_pmd() will try to deref a struct page: head = try_grab_compound_head(pmd_page(orig), refs, flags); and thus crash. Thomas further notices that the drivers are not expecting the struct page to be used by anything - in particular the refcount incr above will cause them to malfunction. Thus everything about this is not able to fully work correctly considering GUP_fast. Delete it entirely. It can return someday along with a proper PMD/PUD_SPECIAL bit in the page table itself to gate GUP_fast. 2021-07-16drm/amdgpu: workaround failed COW checks for Thunk VMAsFelix Kuehling1-0/+9
KFD Thunk maps invisible VRAM BOs with PROT_NONE, MAP_PRIVATE. is_cow_mapping returns true for these mappings, which causes mmap to fail in ttm_bo_mmap_obj. As a workaround, clear VM_MAYWRITE for PROT_NONE-COW mappings. This should prevent the mapping from ever becoming writable and makes is_cow_mapping(vm_flags) false. Drop the workaround and instead implement a better solution. Basically we are now chaining all submissions using a dma_fence_chain container and adding them as exclusive fence to the dma_resv object. 2021-05-26drm/amdgpu: Implement mmap as GEM object functionThomas Zimmermann1-0/+55
Moving the driver-specific mmap code into a GEM object function allows for using DRM helpers for various mmap callbacks. This change resolves several inconsistencies between regular mmap and prime-based mmap. The vm_ops field in vma is now set for all mmap'ed areas. Previously it way only set for regular mmap calls, prime-based mmap used TTM's default vm_ops. The function amdgpu_verify_access() is no longer being called and therefore removed by this patch. This patch replaces the vmap/vunmap's use of raw pointers in GEM object functions with instances of struct dma_buf_map. GEM backends are converted as well. For most of them, this simply changes the returned type. TTM-based drivers now return information about the location of the memory, either system or I/O memory. GEM VRAM helpers and qxl now use ttm_bo_vmap() et al.
