KVM/riscv changes for 6.4 - ONE_REG interface to enable/disable SBI extensions - Zbb extension for Guest/VM - AIA CSR virtualization
2023-04-21RISC-V: KVM: Virtualize per-HART AIA CSRsAnup Patel1-0/+7
The AIA specification introduce per-HART AIA CSRs which primarily support: * 64 local interrupts on both RV64 and RV32 * priority for each of the 64 local interrupts * interrupt filtering for local interrupts This patch virtualize above mentioned AIA CSRs and also extend ONE_REG interface to allow user-space save/restore Guest/VM view of these CSRs. 2023-04-18Merge patch series "RISC-V Hardware Probing User Interface"Palmer Dabbelt2-0/+46
Evan Green <[email protected]> says: There's been a bunch of off-list discussions about this, including at Plumbers. The original plan was to do something involving providing an ISA string to userspace, but ISA strings just aren't sufficient for a stable ABI any more: in order to parse an ISA string users need the version of the specifications that the string is written to, the version of each extension (sometimes at a finer granularity than the RISC-V releases/versions encode), and the expected use case for the ISA string (ie, is it a U-mode or M-mode string). That's a lot of complexity to try and keep ABI compatible and it's probably going to continue to grow, as even if there's no more complexity in the specifications we'll have to deal with the various ISA string parsing oddities that end up all over userspace. Instead this patch set takes a very different approach and provides a set of key/value pairs that encode various bits about the system. The big advantage here is that we can clearly define what these mean so we can ensure ABI stability, but it also allows us to encode information that's unlikely to ever appear in an ISA string (see the misaligned access performance, for example). The resulting interface looks a lot like what arm64 and x86 do, and will hopefully fit well into something like ACPI in the future. The actual user interface is a syscall, with a vDSO function in front of it. The vDSO function can answer some queries without a syscall at all, and falls back to the syscall for cases it doesn't have answers to. Currently we prepopulate it with an array of answers for all keys and a CPU set of "all CPUs". This can be adjusted as necessary to provide fast answers to the most common queries. An example series in glibc exposing this syscall and using it in an ifunc selector for memcpy can be found at [1]. I was asked about the performance delta between this and something like sysfs. I created a small test program and ran it on a Nezha D1 Allwinner board. Doing each operation 100000 times and dividing, these operations take the following amount of time: - open()+read()+close() of /sys/kernel/cpu_byteorder: 3.8us - access("/sys/kernel/cpu_byteorder", R_OK): 1.3us - riscv_hwprobe() vDSO and syscall: .0094us - riscv_hwprobe() vDSO with no syscall: 0.0091us These numbers get farther apart if we query multiple keys, as sysfs will scale linearly with the number of keys, where the dedicated syscall stays the same. To frame these numbers, I also did a tight fork/exec/wait loop, which I measured as 4.8ms. So doing 4 open/read/close operations is a delta of about 0.3%, versus a single vDSO call is a delta of essentially zero. 2023-04-18RISC-V: hwprobe: Support probing of misaligned access performanceEvan Green1-0/+7
This allows userspace to select various routines to use based on the performance of misaligned access on the target hardware. Rather than adding DT bindings, this change taps into the alternatives mechanism used to probe CPU errata. Add a new function pointer alongside the vendor-specific errata_patch_func() that probes for desirable errata (otherwise known as "features"). Unlike the errata_patch_func(), this function is called on each CPU as it comes up, so it can save feature information per-CPU. The T-head C906 has fast unaligned access, both as defined by GCC [1], and in performing a basic benchmark, which determined that byte copies are >50% slower than a misaligned word copy of the same data size (source for this test at [2]): bytecopy size f000 count 50000 offset 0 took 31664899 us wordcopy size f000 count 50000 offset 0 took 5180919 us wordcopy size f000 count 50000 offset 1 took 13416949 us [1] https://github.com/gcc-mirror/gcc/blob/master/gcc/config/riscv/riscv.cc#L353 [2] https://pastebin.com/EPXvDHSW Co-developed-by: Palmer Dabbelt <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Evan Green <[email protected]> Reviewed-by: Heiko Stuebner <[email protected]> Tested-by: Heiko Stuebner <[email protected]> Reviewed-by: Conor Dooley <[email protected]> Reviewed-by: Paul Walmsley <[email protected]> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/[email protected] Signed-off-by: Palmer Dabbelt <[email protected]>

2021-10-04RISC-V: KVM: Implement KVM_GET_ONE_REG/KVM_SET_ONE_REG ioctlsAnup Patel1-1/+52
For KVM RISC-V, we use KVM_GET_ONE_REG/KVM_SET_ONE_REG ioctls to access VCPU config and registers from user-space. We have three types of VCPU registers: 1. CONFIG - these are VCPU config and capabilities 2. CORE - these are VCPU general purpose registers 3. CSR - these are VCPU control and status registers The CONFIG register available to user-space is ISA. The ISA register is a read and write register where user-space can only write the desired VCPU ISA capabilities before running the VCPU. The CORE registers available to user-space are PC, RA, SP, GP, TP, A0-A7, T0-T6, S0-S11 and MODE. Most of these are RISC-V general registers except PC and MODE. The PC register represents program counter whereas the MODE register represent VCPU privilege mode (i.e. S/U-mode). The CSRs available to user-space are SSTATUS, SIE, STVEC, SSCRATCH, SEPC, SCAUSE, STVAL, SIP, and SATP. All of these are read/write registers. In future, more VCPU register types will be added (such as FP) for the KVM_GET_ONE_REG/KVM_SET_ONE_REG ioctls. 2021-10-04RISC-V: KVM: Implement VCPU interrupts and requests handlingAnup Patel1-0/+3
This patch implements VCPU interrupts and requests which are both asynchronous events. The VCPU interrupts can be set/unset using KVM_INTERRUPT ioctl from user-space. In future, the in-kernel IRQCHIP emulation will use kvm_riscv_vcpu_set_interrupt() and kvm_riscv_vcpu_unset_interrupt() functions to set/unset VCPU interrupts. Important VCPU requests implemented by this patch are: KVM_REQ_SLEEP - set whenever VCPU itself goes to sleep state KVM_REQ_VCPU_RESET - set whenever VCPU reset is requested The WFI trap-n-emulate (added later) will use KVM_REQ_SLEEP request and kvm_riscv_vcpu_has_interrupt() function. The KVM_REQ_VCPU_RESET request will be used by SBI emulation (added later) to power-up a VCPU in power-off state. The user-space can use the GET_MPSTATE/SET_MPSTATE ioctls to get/set power state of a VCPU. 2021-10-04RISC-V: Add initial skeletal KVM supportAnup Patel1-0/+47
This patch adds initial skeletal KVM RISC-V support which has: 1. A simple implementation of arch specific VM functions except kvm_vm_ioctl_get_dirty_log() which will implemeted in-future as part of stage2 page loging. 2. Stubs of required arch specific VCPU functions except kvm_arch_vcpu_ioctl_run() which is semi-complete and extended by subsequent patches. 3. Stubs for required arch specific stage2 MMU functions. There are no standard CSR registers to provide cache information, the way for RISC-V is to get this information from DT. Currently, AT_L1I_X, AT_L1D_X and AT_L2_X are present in glibc header, and sysconf syscall could use them to get information of cache through AUX vector. The result of 'getconf -a' as follows: LEVEL1_ICACHE_SIZE 32768 LEVEL1_ICACHE_ASSOC 8 LEVEL1_ICACHE_LINESIZE 64 LEVEL1_DCACHE_SIZE 32768 LEVEL1_DCACHE_ASSOC 8 LEVEL1_DCACHE_LINESIZE 64 LEVEL2_CACHE_SIZE 2097152 LEVEL2_CACHE_ASSOC 32 LEVEL2_CACHE_LINESIZE 64 Signed-off-by: Zong Li <[email protected]> Reviewed-by: Palmer Dabbelt <[email protected]> Reviewed-by: Pekka Enberg <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Palmer Dabbelt <[email protected]>

2019-07-25treewide: add "WITH Linux-syscall-note" to SPDX tag of uapi headersMasahiro Yamada7-7/+7
UAPI headers licensed under GPL are supposed to have exception "WITH Linux-syscall-note" so that they can be included into non-GPL user space application code. The exception note is missing in some UAPI headers. Some of them slipped in by the treewide conversion commit b24413180f56 ("License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license"). Just run: $ git show --oneline b24413180f56 -- arch/x86/include/uapi/asm/ I believe they are not intentional, and should be fixed too. This patch was generated by the following script: git grep -l --not -e Linux-syscall-note --and -e SPDX-License-Identifier \ -- :arch/*/include/uapi/asm/*.h :include/uapi/ :^*/Kbuild | while read file do sed -i -e '/[[:space:]]OR[[:space:]]/s/\(GPL-[^[:space:]]*\)/(\1 WITH Linux-syscall-note)/g' \ -e '/[[:space:]]or[[:space:]]/s/\(GPL-[^[:space:]]*\)/(\1 WITH Linux-syscall-note)/g' \ -e '/[[:space:]]OR[[:space:]]/!{/[[:space:]]or[[:space:]]/!s/\(GPL-[^[:space:]]*\)/\1 WITH Linux-syscall-note/g}' $file done After this patch is applied, there are 5 UAPI headers that do not contain "WITH Linux-syscall-note".
