2020-06-03mm: free_area_init: use maximal zone PFNs rather than zone sizesMike Rapoport1-5/+3
Currently, architectures that use free_area_init() to initialize memory map and node and zone structures need to calculate zone and hole sizes. We can use free_area_init_nodes() instead and let it detect the zone boundaries while the architectures will only have to supply the possible limits for the zones. Patch series "provide a generic free_initmem implementation", v2. Many architectures implement free_initmem() in exactly the same or very similar way: they wrap the call to free_initmem_default() with sometimes different 'poison' parameter. These patches switch those architectures to use a generic implementation that does free_initmem_default(POISON_FREE_INITMEM). 2019-03-07arch: simplify several early memory allocationsMike Rapoport1-7/+2
There are several early memory allocations in arch/ code that use memblock_phys_alloc() to allocate memory, convert the returned physical address to the virtual address and then set the allocated memory to zero. Exactly the same behaviour can be achieved simply by calling memblock_alloc(): it allocates the memory in the same way as memblock_phys_alloc(), then it performs the phys_to_virt() conversion and clears the allocated memory. Replace the longer sequence with a simpler call to memblock_alloc(). 2018-12-20dma-mapping: zero memory returned from dma_alloc_*Christoph Hellwig1-1/+4
If we want to map memory from the DMA allocator to userspace it must be zeroed at allocation time to prevent stale data leaks. We already do this on most common architectures, but some architectures don't do this yet, fix them up, either by passing GFP_ZERO when we use the normal page allocator or doing a manual memset otherwise. Make it explicit that the caller gets a physical address rather than a virtual one. 2016-08-04dma-mapping: use unsigned long for dma_attrsKrzysztof Kozlowski1-2/+2
The dma-mapping core and the implementations do not change the DMA attributes passed by pointer. Thus the pointer can point to const data. However the attributes do not have to be a bitfield. Instead unsigned long will do fine: 1. This is just simpler. Both in terms of reading the code and setting attributes. Instead of initializing local attributes on the stack and passing pointer to it to dma_set_attr(), just set the bits. 2. It brings safeness and checking for const correctness because the attributes are passed by value. Concentrate code to modify totalram_pages into the mm core, so the arch memory initialized code doesn't need to take care of it. With these changes applied, only following functions from mm core modify global variable totalram_pages: free_bootmem_late(), free_all_bootmem(), free_all_bootmem_node(), adjust_managed_page_count(). With this patch applied, it will be much more easier for us to keep totalram_pages and zone->managed_pages in consistence. 2013-07-03mm: enhance free_reserved_area() to support poisoning memory with zeroJiang Liu1-2/+2
Address more review comments from last round of code review. 1) Enhance free_reserved_area() to support poisoning freed memory with pattern '0'. This could be used to get rid of poison_init_mem() on ARM64. 2) A previous patch has disabled memory poison for initmem on s390 by mistake, so restore to the original behavior. 3) Remove redundant PAGE_ALIGN() when calling free_reserved_area(). Original port to early 2.6 kernel using TI COFF toolchain. Brought up to date by Mark Salter <[email protected]> The C6X architecture currently lacks an MMU so memory management is relatively simple. There is no bus snooping between L2 and main memory but coherent DMA memory is supported by making regions of main memory uncached. If such a region is desired, it can be specified on the commandline with a "memdma=" argument.
