2023-07-27tmpfs: fix Documentation of noswap and huge mount optionsHugh Dickins1-27/+20
The noswap mount option is surely not one of the three options for sizing: move its description down. The huge= mount option does not accept numeric values: those are just in an internal enum. Delete those numbers, and follow the manpage text more closely (but there's not yet any fadvise() or fcntl() which applies here). /sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/shmem_enabled is hard to describe, and barely relevant to mounting a tmpfs: just refer to transhuge.rst (while still using the words deny and force, to help as informal reminders). 2023-07-27xen: speed up grant-table reclaimDemi Marie Obenour1-0/+11
When a grant entry is still in use by the remote domain, Linux must put it on a deferred list. Normally, this list is very short, because the PV network and block protocols expect the backend to unmap the grant first. However, Qubes OS's GUI protocol is subject to the constraints of the X Window System, and as such winds up with the frontend unmapping the window first. As a result, the list can grow very large, resulting in a massive memory leak and eventual VM freeze. To partially solve this problem, make the number of entries that the VM will attempt to free at each iteration tunable. The default is still 10, but it can be overridden via a module parameter. This is Cc: stable because (when combined with appropriate userspace changes) it fixes a severe performance and stability problem for Qubes OS users. 2023-07-20ASoC: dt-bindings: pm8916-analog-codec: Drop invalid mclkStephan Gerhold1-10/+0
The audio codec typically used for the MSM8916 SoC is split into two parts: the digital codec is part of the SoC, while the analog codec is part of the PM8916 PMIC. The analog codec in the PMIC has no direct connection to the mclk of the SoC (GCC_CODEC_DIGCODEC_CLK). As the name of the clock suggests this is supplied to the digital part of the codec. During playback it will use this clock to transmit the audio data via the "CDC PDM" pins to the PMIC. In this case the analog codec indirectly receives the clock signal through the digital codec. GCC_CODEC_DIGCODEC_CLK is already managed by the driver of the digital part of the codec in the SoC. Having this clock on the analog PMIC part additionally is redundant and incorrect because the analog codec cannot receive the clock signal without going through the digital codec. SPMI devices typically have a single address cell and no size cell, i.e. reg = <0xf000> for the audio codec instead of reg = <0xf000 0x200>. The example is a bit misleading because it uses the latter. Copying this into the device tree would be incorrect and was fixed before for pm8916.dtsi in commit c2f0cbb57dba ("arm64: dts: qcom: pm8916: Remove invalid reg size from wcd_codec"). Make the example more clear by adding the outer "pmic" node which specifies the same #address/size-cells that would be used in the real deivce tree. 2023-07-19ASoC: Improve coverage in default KUnit runsMark Brown5-41/+84
Merge series from Mark Brown <[email protected]>: We have some KUnit tests for ASoC but they're not being run as much as they should be since ASoC isn't enabled in the configs used by default with KUnit and in the case of the topology tests there is no way to enable them without enabling drivers that use them. This series provides a Kconfig option which KUnit can use directly rather than worry about drivers. Further, since KUnit is typically run in UML but ALSA prevents build with UML we need to remove that Kconfig conflict. As far as I can tell the motiviation for this is that many ALSA drivers use iomem APIs which are not available under UML and it's more trouble than it's worth to go through and add per driver dependencies. In order to avoid these issues we also provide stubs for these APIs so there are no build time issues if a driver relies on iomem but does not depend on it. With these stubs I am able to build all the sound drivers available in a UML defconfig (UML allmodconfig appears to have substantial other issues in a quick test). With this series I am able to run the topology KUnit tests as part of a kunit --alltests run.

2023-07-12ASoC: mt8188: add memory-region supportMark Brown1-0/+7
Merge series from Trevor Wu <[email protected]>: This series introduces support for memory-region, allowing afe memif to utilize the region specified in dts.
2023-07-12ASoC: remove copy of intlog10()Mark Brown2-11/+5
Merge series from Andy Shevchenko <[email protected]>: The first three patches moves intlog10() to be available in entire kernel. The last one removes copy of it in one driver. Besides already good Lines of Code (LoC) statistics the upcoming users, if any, can utilize the exported functions. The series can be routed via ASoC tree (as Mauro suggested). Note, int_log.h is separated from math.h due to licensing. I dunno if we can mix two in a single header file. In any case we may do it later on.
2023-07-12Add support for IIO devices in ASoCMark Brown2-0/+117
Merge series from Herve Codina <[email protected]>: Several weeks ago, I sent a series [1] for adding a potentiometer as an auxiliary device in ASoC. The feedback was that the potentiometer should be directly handled in IIO (as other potentiometers) and something more generic should be present in ASoC in order to have a binding to import some IIO devices into sound cards. The series related to the IIO potentiometer device is already applied. This series introduces audio-iio-aux. Its goal is to offer the binding between IIO and ASoC. It exposes attached IIO devices as ASoC auxiliary devices and allows to control them through mixer controls. On my system, the IIO device is a potentiometer and it is present in an amplifier design present in the audio path.
