2019-11-15ALSA: hda - remove forced polling workaround for CFL and CNLKai Vehmanen1-6/+0
Remove the workarounds added in commit fa763f1b2858 ("ALSA: hda - Force polling mode on CNL for fixing codec communication") and commit a8d7bde23e71 ("ALSA: hda - Force polling mode on CFL for fixing codec communication"). The workarounds are no longer needed after the more generic change done in commit 2756d9143aa5 ("ALSA: hda - Fix intermittent CORB/RIRB stall on Intel chips"). This change applies to a larger set of hardware and covers CFL and CNL as well. Similar change was already done to SOF DSP HDA driver with no regressions detected. Semantics of port#0 differ between ICL and TGL: ICL port#0 -> never used for HDAudio ICL port#1 -> should be mapped to first pin (0x04) TGL port#0 -> typically not used, but HW has the support, so should be mapped to first pin (0x04) TGL port#1 -> should be mapped to 2nd pin (0x06) Refactor the port mapping logic to allow to take the above differences into account. Fixes issues with HDAudio on some TGL platforms. soc_cleanup_card_resources() will call card->remove(), but it should be called if card->probe() or card->late_probe() are called. snd_soc_bind_card() might be error before calling card->probe() / card->late_probe(). It is easy to read code if it is cleanly using paired function/naming, like start <-> stop, register <-> unregister, etc, etc. But, current ALSA SoC code is very random, unbalance, not paired, etc. It is easy to create bug at the such code, and it will be difficult to debug. snd_soc_bind_card() is calling snd_soc_dapm_init() for both card and component. Let's call paired snd_soc_dapm_shutdown() at paired soc_cleanup_card_resources(). 2019-11-15ASoC: wm8904: fix regcache handlingMichael Walle1-0/+1
The current code assumes that the power is turned off in SND_SOC_BIAS_OFF. If there are no actual regulator the codec isn't turned off and the registers are not reset to their default values but the regcache is still marked as dirty. Thus a value might not be written to the hardware if it is set to the default value. Do a software reset before turning off the power to make sure the registers are always reset to their default states. 2019-11-14net: hns3: add compatible handling for MAC VLAN switch parameter configurationGuangbin Huang1-2/+14
Previously, hns3 driver just directly send specific setting bit and mask bits of MAC VLAN switch parameter to the firmware, it can not be compatible with the old firmware, because the old one ignores mask bits and covers all bits with new setting bits. So when running with old firmware, the communication between PF and VF will fail after resetting or configuring spoof check, since they will do the MAC VLAN switch parameter configuration. This patch fixes this problem by reading switch parameter firstly, then just modifies the corresponding bit and sends it to firmware. 2019-11-14ceph: increment/decrement dio counter on async requestsJeff Layton1-0/+4
Ceph can in some cases issue an async DIO request, in which case we can end up calling ceph_end_io_direct before the I/O is actually complete. That may allow buffered operations to proceed while DIO requests are still in flight. Fix this by incrementing the i_dio_count when issuing an async DIO request, and decrement it when tearing down the aio_req. 2019-11-14ceph: take the inode lock before acquiring cap refsJeff Layton1-7/+18
Most of the time, we (or the vfs layer) takes the inode_lock and then acquires caps, but ceph_read_iter does the opposite, and that can lead to a deadlock. When there are multiple clients treading over the same data, we can end up in a situation where a reader takes caps and then tries to acquire the inode_lock. Another task holds the inode_lock and issues a request to the MDS which needs to revoke the caps, but that can't happen until the inode_lock is unwedged. Fix this by having ceph_read_iter take the inode_lock earlier, before attempting to acquire caps. 2019-11-14ALSA: usb-audio: Add skip_validation optionTakashi Iwai3-3/+24
The unit descriptor validation may lead to a probe error when the device provides a buggy descriptor or the validator detected incorrectly. For identifying such an error and band-aiding, give a new module option, skip_validation. With this option, the driver ignores the validation errors with the hexdump of the unit descriptor, so we can check it in a bit more details. 2019-11-14KVM: x86/mmu: Take slots_lock when using kvm_mmu_zap_all_fast()Sean Christopherson1-3/+2
Acquire the per-VM slots_lock when zapping all shadow pages as part of toggling nx_huge_pages. The fast zap algorithm relies on exclusivity (via slots_lock) to identify obsolete vs. valid shadow pages, because it uses a single bit for its generation number. Holding slots_lock also obviates the need to acquire a read lock on the VM's srcu. Failing to take slots_lock when toggling nx_huge_pages allows multiple instances of kvm_mmu_zap_all_fast() to run concurrently, as the other user, KVM_SET_USER_MEMORY_REGION, does not take the global kvm_lock. (kvm_mmu_zap_all_fast() does take kvm->mmu_lock, but it can be temporarily dropped by kvm_zap_obsolete_pages(), so it is not enough to enforce exclusivity). Concurrent fast zap instances causes obsolete shadow pages to be incorrectly identified as valid due to the single bit generation number wrapping, which results in stale shadow pages being left in KVM's MMU and leads to all sorts of undesirable behavior. The bug is easily confirmed by running with CONFIG_PROVE_LOCKING and toggling nx_huge_pages via its module param. Note, until commit 4ae5acbc4936 ("KVM: x86/mmu: Take slots_lock when using kvm_mmu_zap_all_fast()", 2019-11-13) the fast zap algorithm used an ulong-sized generation instead of relying on exclusivity for correctness, but all callers except the recently added set_nx_huge_pages() needed to hold slots_lock anyways. Therefore, this patch does not have to be backported to stable kernels. Given that toggling nx_huge_pages is by no means a fast path, force it to conform to the current approach instead of reintroducing the previous generation count. Sparse uses the same executable for all archs and uses flags like -m64, -mbig-endian or -D__arm__ for arch-specific parameters. But Sparse also uses value from the host machine used to build Sparse as default value for the target machine. This works, of course, well for native build but can create problems when cross-compiling, like defining both '__i386__' and '__arm__' when cross-compiling for arm on a x86-64 machine. Fix this by explicitely telling sparse the target architecture. 2019-11-14block, bfq: deschedule empty bfq_queues not referred by any processPaolo Valente1-6/+26
Since commit 3726112ec731 ("block, bfq: re-schedule empty queues if they deserve I/O plugging"), to prevent the service guarantees of a bfq_queue from being violated, the bfq_queue may be left busy, i.e., scheduled for service, even if empty (see comments in __bfq_bfqq_expire() for details). But, if no process will send requests to the bfq_queue any longer, then there is no point in keeping the bfq_queue scheduled for service. In addition, keeping the bfq_queue scheduled for service, but with no process reference any longer, may cause the bfq_queue to be freed when descheduled from service. But this is assumed to never happen, and causes a UAF if it happens. This, in turn, caused crashes [1, 2]. This commit fixes this issue by descheduling an empty bfq_queue when it remains with not process reference. A test case was reported where two linked reads with registered buffers failed the second link always. This is because we set the expected value of a request in req->result, and if we don't get this result, then we fail the dependent links. For some reason the registered buffer import returned -ERROR/0, while the normal import returns -ERROR/length. This broke linked commands with registered buffers. This reverts commit f4071997f1de016780ec6b79c63d90cd5886ee83. These extra EHL entries won't behave as expected without a bit more work on the kernel side so let's drop them until that kernel work has had a chance to land. Userspace trying to use these new entries won't get the advantage of the new functionality these entries are meant to provide, but at least it won't misbehave. When we do add these back in the future, we'll probably want to explicitly use separate tables for ICL and EHL so that userspace software that mistakenly uses these entries (which are undefined on ICL) sees the same behavior it sees with all the other undefined entries.
