2010-12-29powerpc/512x: add MPC8308 dma supportIlya Yanok2-25/+72
MPC8308 has pretty much the same DMA controller as MPC5121 and this patch adds support for MPC8308 to the mpc512x_dma driver. Signed-off-by: Ilya Yanok <[email protected]> Acked-by: Wolfgang Denk <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Grant Likely <[email protected]>
2010-12-29powerpc/512x: fix the hanged dma transfer issueIlya Yanok1-6/+3
Current code clears interrupt active status _after_ submitting new transfers. This leaves a possibility of clearing the interrupt for this new transfer (if it is triggered fast enough) and thus lose this interrupt. We want to clear interrupt active status _before_ new transfers is submitted and for current channel only. 2010-12-29powerpc/512x: scatter/gather dma fixIlya Yanok1-1/+3
While testing mpc512x-dma driver with dmatest module I've found that I can hang the mpc512x-dma issuing request from multiple threads to the single channel. insmod dmatest.ko max_channels=1 threads_per_chan=16 After investigating this case I've managed to find that this happens if and only if we have more than one queued requests. In this case the driver tries to make use of hardware scatter/gather functionality. I've found two problems with scatter/gather: 1. When TCD is copied form RAM to the TCD register space with memcpy_io() e_sg bit eventually gets cleared. This results in only first TCD being executed. I've added setting of e_sg bit explicitly in the TCD registers. BTW, what is the correct way to do this? (How can I use setbits with bitfield structure?) After that hardware loads consecutive TCDs and we hit the second issue. 2. Existing code clears int_maj bit in the last TCD so we never get an interrupt on transfer completion. With these fixes my tests with many threads of single channel succeed but tests that use many channels simultaneously still don't work reliable. 2010-12-27x86/microcode: Fix double vfree() and remove redundant pointer checks before ↵Jesper Juhl1-11/+5
vfree() In arch/x86/kernel/microcode_intel.c::generic_load_microcode() we have this: while (leftover) { ... if (get_ucode_data(mc, ucode_ptr, mc_size) || microcode_sanity_check(mc) < 0) { vfree(mc); break; } ... } if (mc) vfree(mc); This will cause a double free of 'mc'. This patch fixes that by just removing the vfree() call in the loop since 'mc' will be freed nicely just after we break out of the loop. There's also a second change in the patch. I noticed a lot of checks for pointers being NULL before passing them to vfree(). That's completely redundant since vfree() deals gracefully with being passed a NULL pointer. Removing the redundant checks yields a nice size decrease for the object file. 2010-12-24libata: issue DIPM enable commands with LPM state updatedTejun Heo1-3/+14
Low level drivers may behave differently depending on the current link->lpm_policy. During ata_eh_set_lpm(), DIPM enable commands are issued after the successful completion of ap->ops->set_lpm(), which means that the controller is already in the target state. This causes DIPM enable commands to be processed with mismatching controller power state and link->lpm_policy value. In ahci, link->lpm_policy is used to ignore certain PHY events if LPM is enabled; however, as DIPM commands are issued with stale link->lpm_policy, they sometimes end up triggering these conditions and get aborted leading to LPM configuration failure. Fix it by updating link->lpm_policy before issuing DIPM enable commands. 2010-12-24libata: no special completion processing for EH commandsTejun Heo1-9/+15
ata_qc_complete() contains special handling for certain commands. For example, it schedules EH for device revalidation after certain configurations are changed. These shouldn't be applied to EH commands but they were. In most cases, it doesn't cause an actual problem because EH doesn't issue any command which would trigger special handling; however, ACPI can issue such commands via _GTF which can cause weird interactions. Restructure ata_qc_complete() such that EH commands are always passed on to __ata_qc_complete(). stable: Please apply to -stable only after 2.6.38 is released. 2010-12-24libata-sff: fix HSM_ST_ERR handling in __ata_sff_port_intr()Tejun Heo1-4/+3
While separating out BMDMA irq handler from SFF, commit c3b28894 (libata-sff: separate out BMDMA irq handler) incorrectly made __ata_sff_port_intr() consider an IRQ to be an idle one if the host state was transitioned to HSM_ST_ERR by ata_bmdma_port_intr(). This makes BMDMA drivers ignore IRQs reporting host bus error which leads to timeouts instead of triggering EH immediately. Fix it by making __ata_sff_port_intr() consider the IRQ to be an idle one iff the state is HSM_ST_IDLE. This is equivalent to adding HSM_ST_ERR to the "break"ing case but less error-prone. There is no such module, so it will fail. If we look in modules.alias we will find entries like these: . . . alias i2c:ds1339 rtc_ds1307 alias i2c:ds1338 rtc_ds1307 alias i2c:ds1337 rtc_ds1307 alias i2c:ds1307 rtc_ds1307 alias i2c:ds1374 rtc_ds1374 . . .
