2016-11-29mmc: sdhci: Use sdhci-caps-mask and sdhci-caps to change the caps read ↵Zach Brown1-2/+22
during __sdhci_read_caps The sdhci capabilities register can be incorrect. The sdhci-caps-mask and sdhci-caps dt properties specify which bits of the register are incorrect and what their values should be. This patch makes the sdhci driver use those properties to correct the caps during __sdhci_read_caps. During __sdhci_read_caps Use the sdhci-caps-mask property to turn off the incorrect bits of the sdhci register after reading them. Use the sdhci-caps to turn on bits after using sdhci-caps-mask to turn off the incorrect ones. 2016-11-29mmc: mmci: refactor ST Micro busy detectionLinus Walleij2-30/+85
The ST Micro-specific busy detection was made after the assumption that only this variant supports busy detection. So when doing busy detection, the host immediately tries to use some ST-specific register bits. Since the qualcomm variant also supports some busy detection schemes, encapsulate the variant flags better in the variant struct and prepare to add more variants by just providing some bitmasks to the logic. Put the entire busy detection logic within an if()-clause in the mmci_cmd_irq() function so the code is only executed when busy detection is enabled, and so that it is kept in (almost) one place, and add comments describing what is going on so the code can be understood. Tested on the Ux500 by introducing some prints in the busy detection path and noticing how the IRQ is enabled, used and disabled successfully. There was some confusion in the CPSM (Command Path State Machine) and DPSM (Data Path State Machine) regarding the naming of the registers, clarify the meaning of this acronym so the naming is understandable, and consistently use BIT() to define these fields. Consequently name the register bit defines MCI_[C|D]PSM_* and adjust the driver as well. Include new definitions for a few bits found in a patch from Srinivas Kandagatla. 2016-11-29mmc: core: Don't power off the card when starting the hostUlf Hansson1-5/+4
The MMC_CAP2_NO_PRESCAN_POWERUP was invented to avoid running the power up sequence, mmc_power_up(), during ->probe() of the mmc host driver, but instead defer this to the mmc detect work. This is especially useful for those hosts that suffers from a long initialization time, as this time would otherwise add up to the total boot time. However, due to the introduction of runtime PM of mmc host devices in the mmc core, this behaviour changed a bit. More precisely, it caused the mmc core to runtime resume the host device during ->probe() of the host driver. In cases like the rtsx_usb_sdmmc, runtime resuming the device may be costly and thus affecting the total boot time. To improve this behaviour when using MMC_CAP2_NO_PRESCAN_POWERUP, let's postpone also calling mmc_power_off() when starting the host. This change allows the mmc core to avoid runtime resuming the device, as it don't need to claim the host for that execution path. When polling for busy after sending a MMC_SWITCH command, both the optional ->card_busy() callback and CMD13 are being used in conjunction. This doesn't make sense. Instead it's more reasonable to rely solely on the ->card_busy() callback when it exists. Let's change that and instead use the CMD13 as a fall-back. In this way we avoid sending CMD13, unless it's really needed. Within this context, let's also take the opportunity to make some additional clean-ups and clarifications to the related code. VMMC is an optional regulator, which means that mmc_regulator_get_supply will only return an error in case of a deferred probe, but not when the regulator is not set in the DT. However, the sunxi driver assumes that VMMC is always there, and doesn't check the value of the regulator pointer before using it, which obviously leads to a (close to) null pointer dereference. In commit 10724cc7bb78 ("tipc: redesign connection-level flow control") we replaced the previous message based flow control with one based on 1k blocks. In order to ensure backwards compatibility the mechanism falls back to using message as base unit when it senses that the peer doesn't support the new algorithm. The default flow control window, i.e., how many units can be sent before the sender blocks and waits for an acknowledge (aka advertisement) is 512. This was tested against the previous version, which uses an acknowledge frequency of on ack per 256 received message, and found to work fine. However, we missed the fact that versions older than Linux 3.15 use an acknowledge frequency of 512, which is exactly the limit where a 4.6+ sender will stop and wait for acknowledge. This would also work fine if it weren't for the fact that if the first sent message on a 4.6+ server side is an empty SYNACK, this one is also is counted as a sent message, while it is not counted as a received message on a legacy 3.15-receiver. This leads to the sender always being one step ahead of the receiver, a scenario causing the sender to block after 512 sent messages, while the receiver only has registered 511 read messages. Hence, the legacy receiver is not trigged to send an acknowledge, with a permanently blocked sender as result. We solve this deadlock by simply allowing the sender to send one more message before it blocks, i.e., by a making minimal change to the condition used for determining connection congestion. gcc-7 detects a short memset in mvpp2, introduced in the original merge of the driver: drivers/net/ethernet/marvell/mvpp2.c: In function 'mvpp2_cls_init': drivers/net/ethernet/marvell/mvpp2.c:3296:2: error: 'memset' used with length equal to number of elements without multiplication by element size [-Werror=memset-elt-size] The result seems to be that we write uninitialized data into the flow table registers, although we did not get any warning about that uninitialized data usage. Using sizeof() lets us initialize then entire array instead. 2016-11-25tipc: improve sanity check for received domain recordsJon Paul Maloy1-5/+5
In commit 35c55c9877f8 ("tipc: add neighbor monitoring framework") we added a data area to the link monitor STATE messages under the assumption that previous versions did not use any such data area. For versions older than Linux 4.3 this assumption is not correct. In those version, all STATE messages sent out from a node inadvertently contain a 16 byte data area containing a string; -a leftover from previous RESET messages which were using this during the setup phase. This string serves no purpose in STATE messages, and should no be there. Unfortunately, this data area is delivered to the link monitor framework, where a sanity check catches that it is not a correct domain record, and drops it. It also issues a rate limited warning about the event. Since such events occur much more frequently than anticipated, we now choose to remove the warning in order to not fill the kernel log with useless contents. 2016-11-25tipc: fix compatibility bug in link monitoringJon Paul Maloy1-2/+3
commit 817298102b0b ("tipc: fix link priority propagation") introduced a compatibility problem between TIPC versions newer than Linux 4.6 and those older than Linux 4.4. In versions later than 4.4, link STATE messages only contain a non-zero link priority value when the sender wants the receiver to change its priority. This has the effect that the receiver resets itself in order to apply the new priority. This works well, and is consistent with the said commit. However, in versions older than 4.4 a valid link priority is present in all sent link STATE messages, leading to cyclic link establishment and reset on the 4.6+ node. We fix this by adding a test that the received value should not only be valid, but also differ from the current value in order to cause the receiving link endpoint to reset. The mvneta driver advertises it supports IFF_UNICAST_FLT. However, it actually does not. The hardware probably does support it, but there is no code to configure the filter. As a quick and simple fix, remove the flag. This will cause the core to fall back to promiscuous mode. Dave Anglin then looked again at the TLB related code and found two issues in the PCI DMA and generic TLB flush functions. Then, in our startup code we had some timing of the cache and TLB functions to calculate a threshold when to use a complete TLB/cache flush or just to flush a specific range. This code produced a race with newly started CPUs and thus lead to occasional kernel crashes (due to stale TLB/cache entries). The patch by Dave fixes this issue by flushing the local caches before starting secondary CPUs and by removing the race. The last problem fixed by this series is that we quite often suffered from hung tasks and self-detected stalls on the CPUs. It was somehow clear that this was related to the (in v4.7) newly introduced cr16 clocksource and the own implementation of sched_clock(). I replaced the open-coded sched_clock() function and switched to the generic sched_clock() implementation which seems to have fixed this isse as well. All patches have been sucessfully tested on a variety of machines, including our debian buildd servers.
