I have a randconfig here which has enabled only CONFIG_MICROCODE=y CONFIG_MICROCODE_OLD_INTERFACE=y with both # CONFIG_MICROCODE_INTEL is not set # CONFIG_MICROCODE_AMD is not set off. Which makes building the microcode functionality a little pointless. Don't do that in such cases then. In ftrace_syscall_enter(), syscall_get_arguments(..., 0, n, ...) if (i == 0) { <handle ORIG_r0> ...; n--;} memcpy(..., n * sizeof(args[0])); If 'number of arguments(n)' is zero and 'argument index(i)' is also zero in syscall_get_arguments(), none of arguments should be copied by memcpy(). Otherwise 'n--' can be a big positive number and unexpected amount of data will be copied. Tracing system calls which take no argument, say sync(void), may hit this case and eventually make the system corrupted. This patch fixes the issue both in syscall_get_arguments() and syscall_set_arguments(). 2013-10-13parisc: fix interruption handler to respect pagefault_disable()Helge Deller1-3/+3
Running an "echo t > /proc/sysrq-trigger" crashes the parisc kernel. The problem is, that in print_worker_info() we try to read the workqueue info via the probe_kernel_read() functions which use pagefault_disable() to avoid crashes like this: probe_kernel_read(&pwq, &worker->current_pwq, sizeof(pwq)); probe_kernel_read(&wq, &pwq->wq, sizeof(wq)); probe_kernel_read(name, wq->name, sizeof(name) - 1); The problem here is, that the first probe_kernel_read(&pwq) might return zero in pwq and as such the following probe_kernel_reads() try to access contents of the page zero which is read protected and generate a kernel segfault. With this patch we fix the interruption handler to call parisc_terminate() directly only if pagefault_disable() was not called (in which case preempt_count()==0). Otherwise we hand over to the pagefault handler which will try to look up the faulting address in the fixup tables. Olga reported that file descriptors opened with O_PATH do not work with fstatfs(), found during further development of ksh93's thread support. There is no reason to not allow O_PATH file descriptors here (fstatfs is very much a path operation), so use "fdget_raw()". If we take the 2nd retry path in ext4_expand_extra_isize_ea, we potentionally return from the function without having freed these allocations. If we don't do the return, we over-write the previous allocation pointers, so we leak either way. Spotted with Coverity. 2013-10-12ARC: Ignore ptrace SETREGSET request for synthetic register "stop_pc"Vineet Gupta1-1/+1
ARCompact TRAP_S insn used for breakpoints, commits before exception is taken (updating architectural PC). So ptregs->ret contains next-PC and not the breakpoint PC itself. This is different from other restartable exceptions such as TLB Miss where ptregs->ret has exact faulting PC. gdb needs to know exact-PC hence ARC ptrace GETREGSET provides for @stop_pc which returns ptregs->ret vs. EFA depending on the situation. However, writing stop_pc (SETREGSET request), which updates ptregs->ret doesn't makes sense stop_pc doesn't always correspond to that reg as described above. This was not an issue so far since user_regs->ret / user_regs->stop_pc had same value and both writing to ptregs->ret was OK, needless, but NOT broken, hence not observed. With gdb "jump", they diverge, and user_regs->ret updating ptregs is overwritten immediately with stop_pc, which this patch fixes. The loops which SPI controller drivers use to process the list of transfers in a spi_message are typically very similar and have some error prone areas such as the handling of /CS. Help simplify drivers by factoring this code out into the core - if drivers provide a transfer_one() function instead of a transfer_one_message() function the core will handle processing at the message level. /CS can be controlled by either setting cs_gpio or providing a set_cs function. If this is not possible for hardware reasons then both can be omitted and the driver should continue to implement manual /CS handling. This is a first step in refactoring and it is expected that there will be further enhancements, for example factoring out of the mapping of transfers for DMA and the initiation and completion of interrupt driven transfers. Many SPI drivers perform setup and tear down on every message, usually doing things like DMA mapping the message. Provide hooks for them to use to provide such operations. This is of limited value for drivers that implement transfer_one_message() but will be of much greater utility with future factoring out of standard implementations of that function. So in order to not break userspace we just reverted things back to the old known broken status so maybe we can try and design out way out. 2013-10-11VFIO: vfio_iommu_type1: fix bug caused by break in nested loopAntonios Motakis1-19/+21
In vfio_iommu_type1.c there is a bug in vfio_dma_do_map, when checking that pages are not already mapped. Since the check is being done in a for loop nested within the main loop, breaking out of it does not create the intended behavior. If the underlying IOMMU driver returns a non-NULL value, this will be ignored and mapping the DMA range will be attempted anyway, leading to unpredictable behavior. This interracts badly with the ARM SMMU driver issue fixed in the patch that was submitted with the title: "[PATCH 2/2] ARM: SMMU: return NULL on error in arm_smmu_iova_to_phys" Both fixes are required in order to use the vfio_iommu_type1 driver with an ARM SMMU. I have am335x-evm with one port running in OTG mode. Since commit fe4cb09 ("usb: musb: gadget: remove hcd initialization") the loaded gadget does non pop up on the host. All I see is |usb 4-5: new high-speed USB device number 52 using ehci-pci |usb 4-5: device descriptor read/64, error -110 Since a later commit 2cc65fe ("usb: musb: add musb_host_setup() and musb_host_cleanup()) the gadget shows up on the host again but only in OTG mode (because we have the host init code running). It does not work in device only mode. If running in OTG mode and the gadget is removed and added back (rmmod followed by modprobe of a gadget) then the same error is pops up on the host side. This patch ensures that the gadget side also executes musb_start() which puts the chip in "connect accept" mode. With this change the device works in OTG & device mode and the gadget can be added & removed multiple times. A device (if musb is in OTG mode acting as a host) is only recognized if it is attached during module load (musb_hdrc module). After the device unplugged and plugged again the host does not recognize it. We get a buch of errors if musb running in OTG mode, attached to a host and no gadget is loaded. Bah. This is one step forward. Host & device only mode should work. I will look at OTG later. Patch be1a4b brought some improvements to the GPIO error handling code, but also changed the return value of gpiod_request() when called on a not yet initialized GPIO descriptor: it now returns -EINVAL instead of -EPROBE_DEFER, and this affects some drivers. This patch restores the original behavior for gpiod_request(). It is safe to do so now that desc_to_gpio() does not rely on the GPIO descriptor to be initialized. 2013-10-11gpiolib: safer implementation of desc_to_gpio()Alexandre Courbot1-1/+1
The current implementation of desc_to_gpio() relies on the chip pointer to be set to a valid value in order to compute the GPIO number. This was done in the hope that we can get rid of the gpio_desc global array, but this is not happening anytime soon. This patch reimplements desc_to_gpio() in a fashion similar to that of gpio_to_desc(). As a result, desc_to_gpio(gpio_to_desc(gpio)) == gpio is now always true.
